Thread: Estimates Please

  1. Support Estimates Please

Not counting expenses, any estimates on UL's monetary intake for a game like Saturday that resulted in a win?

Parking, concessions, tickets, paraphernalia before and after. . .

Also what is the monetary value to a program starting off the season with a win vs. coming home for game 2 after a rent-a-loss?

What I would like to know is how many people were tailgaiting outside Cajun Field during the game. Usually it's estimated by the estimators at 20K or so.

    Yeah, no joke Destin.

There were probably anywhere from 55-60K people on the grounds yesterday.

I think some would call that a shot across the flagship's bow.

I don't know how to put a value to Lafayette's economy from this little factoid but at 2:30 am I stopped in at Mel's Diner for a cup of coffee and some biscuits and they were packed full.

I inquired and they said they had been buzy all night since the game let out.

Side note: the Mel's diner crew were all wearing Ragin' Cajun shirts.

    41,000 x $22(average cost ticket) = $902,000
    41,000 x 10 (average concessions) = $410,000
    41,000 x $5 (average souvenier purchase)= $205,000

I don't know about Saturday, but a couple of years ago a Marketing prof had his class walk tailgating during the game, making a headcount and asking people why they weren't in the game.

It was a couple of hundred people.

I enjoyed the sight of a good number of people standing outside the gates as I entered holding up fingers for the number of tickets they needed.

Wow. I have never seen this at a Cajuns game. What a wonderful problem to have. Now I only hope we can repeat the problem this Saturday.

Speaking of selling tickets to the less fortunate. I gave my daughter my 2 general admission tickets to use. I suggested she ask $10 for the extra ticket. Being a true tightwad like her dad, she gets $20 for it.

1.5 mil and no travel costs.

Just a guess and agreeing, don't start a rumor

You have to take out the number of students that were there at $22.00 a head then add back in the student fee (what ever that is) and figure that on a per game basis. Scott Farmer was saying it does cost a pretty good amount of money to put on a game. They were planning on having 500 people employed to manage a game with that many people. Either way I'm thinking they made some good money this weekend.
