That was the funnest half time show I have ever seen. Great music selection and awesome performance.
I felt bad for our band having to follow that performance.
Southern is a "show" band. They are entertainers. The "Pride of Acadiana" are awesome also. We have a bunch of very talented musicians. Its like trying to compare a rock band and an orchestra. You just cant do it.
It seem that I read on here that we would be surprise at the preformance of the UL band. Same old stuff. When I could hear them, unlike the SU band, it sames like they were playing silent night. A standing ovation for SU band and a few claps for UL. You could tell in their faces that they knew they were in for it.
I think the consensus is GET LOUDER! Football fans (for the most part) don't care about technical perfection and straight lines. They're drunk, rowdy, and at an entertainment event. Entertain them.
And of course they're going to compare the two bands! One band played right after another. That makes the comparison easier, in fact.
We don't have to be "Southern", but we can be more like Troy or dare I say it (LSU).
They have high quality bands that energize the crowd. I know I'm getting old, but I have to strain to hear our band. When Southern's band played last night, we had to stop our conversations. Concerts can be played in Angelle Hall, we need a football band.
Why is the Southern Band universally loved? They were built for "LIVE"
I compare it to a recorded song vs. a live concert. You tell a group you will be playing their favorite artist's greatest hits in the Cajun Dome and see how many show up.
Tell them the same band will be there live and see the crowd show up.
This crowd (example above) in spite of the fact there isn't a live concert that can compare technically to the perfection of a recorded album . . . yet the fans don't care about the tone the missed notes the poor fundamentals that live forces on you. They are there for something an album can't give . . . A Show
And that is what Southern gives, "A Show" because they were built for "LIVE"
jmo
I am going to have to disagree with you here Turbine. I sat near some former band guys and they were very impressed with the quality and execution of the Southern band. They were 10 times better than expeted musically. Not to mention doing this while dancing and putting on a performance that will never be topped at Cajuns field.
