I'm a UL band alum as well. PoA has their priorities wrong IMO. High school style technically difficult half time shows are, to me, a waste of rehearsal time. Make the marching easy, somewhat visual, and play good music. Then focus on stands music in a major way, instead of making it an afterthought like it is now. Also, the band barely fills up half their seat allotment. How small have we gotten?

Come on man. The reason Southern's Band got a better ovation is because their halftime act was more entertaining, plain and simple. That "we have more respect for ourselves" comment kinda blows me considering Southern is seen by many to be one of the premier college marching bands in the country. Bottom Line: They came, they rocked, they put on a better show.
Disclaimer: I understand band members are working hard, and I respect that. Just questioning the direction I guess. Armchair band director here!!

I totally agree with you. Are other schools from around the country freaking out months in advance wondering if we are bringing the pride of Acadiana. I agree with some of the posts, the music the band plays does not entertain the crowd, and they need to find a new niche, they are becoming obsolete.
Southern Band = ipod, PofA = phonograph
CajunZ1, your spot on man. No one is questioning the POA's talent, just asking why aren't they playing more during the game!? Why on earth are they playing music over the P.A. when we have a perfectly capable band that can play the same song, live and with a full band. I also think they don't need to be so spaced out. If there aren't as many members this year, then move everyone down some rows so it looks better.
We do appreciate our band, don't get us wrong but it's like y'all do the same thing every year. It's football...emotions are high...we want to have a good time and be entertained. No offense but i feel like i've seen the same thing almost every halftime ever since the 70's. I'm musically declined and i want to hear something fast and fun and that i may know the words to. My daughter was on ragin' jazz for 3 years and they had the hardest time dancing to the music that was played.
Southern and Troy...they define halftime "entertainment". We're entertained by them.
One other note...i like where southerns band was located. In that corner, at the angle where they could play down the field. Unless you are directly across from the UL band you can barely hear them.
