I'm sorry my friend, I empathize with you but if you weren't impressed with what the SU band did at halftime, I really don't know what to say. That was one of the best performances I've seen and certainly at a football game. They're loud, they're entertaining and they sound good IMO. That Thriller routine was fantastic, no doubt about it. We respect and appreciate the POA but we could definitely use more energy.
CAJUNBANDER... No offense because I know you and the other people in our band work very hard at what you guys do, but there is a reason that 41,000 people cherred very loudly for the SU band and not as much for you guys!
I wish our administration and band dir. would take notes because that is entertainment!
Troy's band is the same type of band that we are! They just do it better than us obviously. (I still don't like Troy because they're a rival to us, I respect them a lot more than Southern's band)
Everyone in the band had a horrible experience at the game because of those fans. I'm sorry if I'm venting a little. We were called names, we were cursed at, we had stuff thrown at us, AT OUR OWN STADIUM. We had to call the cops before the first quarter was even over because one of our tuba players got assaulted by one of those a-holes.
The Southern fans behind the tubas were talking smack the entire time. One of them got mad that we were playing in front of him while he was trying to watch the game, so he elbowed a tuba player in the back of the head. When he did that, his head hit his mouthpiece and busted his eye open.
We were constantly disrespected by everyone wearing blue and gold. Then on top of all that, we didn't even feel ANY love from our own school's fans. It only got better when we won and left, and when we got to the after party.
I'm sorry that happened, I did really enjoy southern's band, but the thing that gave me a chill, was seeing the interlocking UL formation pre-game with the fight song being played. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed that. BTW, I liked their performance, but did not like them outside of that, I found it kind of classless that they would start playing while yall were playing just to be A-holes.
Cant wait to see and here yall next week!
I can understand why you'd be ____ed...and why you don't want to hear any praise for the Southern band. Did your tuba player press charges? What did the police do? If the Southern team was as good as the Southern band, I'm sure the cockiness would have been as bad as LSU can be...
All that being said...they were louder (20 Tubas compared to 12) and the placement of the band in the corner definitely projected the music towards the whole field...The technical numbers just don't pump up the scene like the pop sound with heavy percussion and dance rhythms. Please no more tributes to Journey or any other 60's/70's/80 pop balllads.
I love ya and we need ya; we just need you guys to lead the crowd...I don't think anyone expects the band to put down their instruments and do a dance number, just pump that ______t up!
They guy ran as soon as he did it. The Sheriff's Deputies took a statement and made a report, but there was nothing they could really do. A couple EMT's came down and took care of him. He's fine, but it's something that should have never happened.
We try and try to get people to switch from woodwind to brass, but people just don't want to. We have to take what we can get. We are going to a couple band competitions throughout the state this year, to try and recruit more people. Yesterday, Southern probably hadn't played until they got to The Swamp and warmed up. We had a 2 and a half hour rehearsal in the morning, plus we had the Ragin' March and Pregame, we were a little bit more fatigued than Southern was. We practice 3 days a week, for about 2 hours, 6 hours of rehearsal. We also have other classes and homework. We do the best that we can do. Those, aside from the fact that we don't have the funding that other schools do, are the reasons why we are like we are. We put just as much effort into it as other schools do.
