Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns started their game week preparations as early as Thursday of last week. The Cajuns worked on Thursday and Friday afternoon, before undergoing Coach Bustle's annual "Script Scrimmage" on Saturday morning. The script scrimmage is more of a walk-through that covers every possible aspect of football and the various untraditional situations that could occur on the field. Practice resumed on Sunday night and continued on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. The team will practice on Thursday and enjoy a walk-through on Friday.
Five questions for head coach Rickey Bustle...
How has practice gone this week?
Bustle: "Tuesday's practice wasn't good enough. We did not practice well defensively, so they are staying late (Wednesday) after practice to make up plays. I think Wednesday's practice was much better and we worked extra to make up for the things we didn't do well on Tuesday."
The Cajuns are playing back-to-back home games to start the season for the first time since 1989?
Bustle: "There's no question that starting at home is awesome. We have to take care of business this week, but it will be great to be back at home again next week. It will catch-up to us on the back-end a little bit, but it's worth it."
How have the quarterbacks performed since you named a starter and talk about moving six-foot-four quarterback Keldric White to wide receiver?
Bustle: "I'm pleased with the way both Chris (Masson) and Brad (McGuire) are practicing. They are both taking charge of the situation. Brad was obviously disappointed, but he is not practicing like a back-up. Blaine (Gautier) is getting some plays in practice and we have some (offensive) packages in for him. Keldric is now working at wide receiver. He gives a big athletic target out there."
How frustrating has your kicking battle been?
Bustle: "Injuries have taken a toll on their consistency. It's been very frustrating to see neither one of them perform up to their abilities."
Outside of the game itself, what are you looking forward to most this Saturday?
Bustle: "Without question, the Cajun Walk. Part of playing at home is the Cajun Walk. We love to see a lot of people out there and love the support they give us as we walk (into the athletic complex). The team will arrive at the end of Reinhardt at 3:45 p.m. and we hope to see everybody out there!"
