If Brooks doesn't think he will get a fair shake for the starting position next season, he should transfer out to an FCS school where he can play.
He's too good to ride the bench.
I would venture to say that TB had a much better game against South Al than Haack did.
I will say it right now loud and proud. Brooks Haack would have close to 1000 more yards passing at QB than TB does at this point in the season if he were the full time starter. Now does that mean we would have more wins? Probably not, I thought the only game we lost that we should have won has been La Tech.
I also do not think that we have played very well in ALL aspects of the game so far this season in a single game. We have played well in certain phases of the game, but haven't clicked on all cylinders just yet.
You see that is where you and I may disagree. Do you understand how Harris would destroy linebackers if the SS/FS were not in the box and required to actually play DB instead of a glorified linebacker? McGuire would have slightly less yardage because the 2nd level would not be 3 yards past the LOS but we would still be a darn good running team.
People complain about our WR's, well let me tell you they are pretty darn good even without Robinson. We just do not have a QB who is a great down field passer. TB is unreal when you can get him outside of the pocket and extend the play causing a defender commit to stopping him from running the ball, then it opens up a huge hole in the defense and he is able to find the open WR. If he is forced to stay in the pocket and be more of a true pocket passer he struggles.
Now some of you may think I am calling for TB to be benched, I am not. He does give us our best chance to win this season. But I will be extremely disappointed if Haack is not the starting QB next season. The kid has an NFL arm and accuracy, he just doesn't fit into the current scheme of the offensive game plan that we are running right now. But next season we will not have a Harris to pound the rock up the middle to open things up for McGuire. So we will be forced to find another way to create space, that should be done with the vertical and crossing passing game.
We will likely get Robinson back, Scott, Fuse, Riles, Byrnes, Bates, and Barns are all weapons that can open up the field if we have a QB that can throw the ball. I want to see an offense that is more like TCU and Baylor, I believe that Haack can provide the passing ability to allow Jay Johnson to call a game that would allow us to do that. Much like he did when Blaine was the QB and Lawson, Surgent and Peoples all had great years.
I'm not for Haack and I'm not agaiant TB. But having a guy like Haack that can blow the top off of a defense, this offense would be down right unstoppable. For example, look at how effectively the saints have been running the since Brees has been throwing it deep again.. It's simple. You stretch the defense and the running game benefits. I'm not talking about the Sun Belt either. The talent on the Oline, the talent in the back field, the talent that's being underutilized in the WR and TE corps, would explode with a true passing threat.
And btw, the guys calling TB mediocre are probably comparing him to P5 QBs, not the rest of the belt or the Cajuns' "illustrious" history of QBs. If yall are going to argue, provide context.
I don't necessarily think you're wrong, just pointing out that if our passing game was the focal point of offense, we probably wouldn't think so highly of Harris, et al being they wouldn't have as many opportunities to shine. It would have to be give and take (not that there's anything wrong with that as long as either is successful).
We throw a good bit right now. We even have decent passing percentages. We don't spread the field very well (other than what we do with our fairly wide open rushing attack). When you complete more intermediate to deep passes... which C4L believes Haack can do... you open things up for certain run plays to gain more yardage. Harris might have more break away runs and be an even bigger obvious asset.
Whether Haack would produce more offense by spreading the field with his arm, and more than compensate for Terrance's dual threat capabilities, is pure speculation. (C4L is a former Cajun WR... and we know they never know anything about football)
I'd just like to put the myth to bed that commenting that you think highly of what Haack has to offer should not be misconstrued as hating anyone on this football team.
