Barry Pollard wore # 10 in 1974 and 1975. Barry was from San Diego, CA and the first big JC recruit signed by Augie. His signing in the spring of 1974 opened up the foodgates for the JC invasion of 1975 and 1976. Barry was an excellent athlete, very articulate, intelligent and a great teammate. You may have read alot about Roy Henry in the #11 posts but Barry Pollard had almost equal playing time with Roy Henry in 1975. I have 2 Barry Pollard stories. The first involves Boomer. Boomer was recruiting Barry from California but had never met him. Boomer asked me to go with him to the airport to meet Barry who was flying in on a recruiting trip. The plane lands and everyone gets off and we are looking for this stud Claifornia quarterback but could not locate him. Finally after everyone hugs their familes and leaves the baggage claim area there is me, Boomer and a 5'11" black guy with a big afro. I go up and ask if he was Barry Pollard and he said yes.
Second story was Barry shows up in my suite after about 2 months in Lafayette. He is holding a flyer about a KKK meeting somewhere near Cankton. He says he has always heard about KKK meetings and he wanted to go. Nate Thornton had to finally convince him that this was not California and it would be a really bad idea for him to attend a KKK meeting.
Barry was a very good quarterback and an even better person.
I remember taking him to NO to get a plane because he was getting married---he had to leave the game early--It was raining and I was hauling ass to get him there on time!!! We need to get him back---Isn't his wife Annie????

San Jose State 1974. This San Jose State team I believe had beaten Cal and Stanford and was getting votes for the top 25. Barry must have completed 10 passes to Nate Thornton who had been moved to tight end just for that game. Barry had a great game and we were ahead late in the 4th quarter when San Jose scored two late touchdowns to win. Everyone remembers that near miss in game one that year against Tulane but few remember the near miss late in that same season against a very good San Jose State team.
By the way. . . Coach Zeno was the man!
10 days till the start of season.
Is this a picture of #10 Barry Pollard and #6 Nat Durant
