A game with UL would be unreal---the largest public Catholic school in the US against Notre Dame----A huge Mass with both Alumni and students on the Sunday after at St Louis Cathedral----What a fabulous deal---maybe a Mass on Saturday morning and a Dome game that night!!!!!
I keep hearing the same thing about the 20K Southern fans. If that's the case, then they're going to bring about 5K more than they bring to their own home games because they only average about 15K per game. I think what they're going by is the fact that they bring about 20K to the Bayou Classic and the other Classic game in Houston. That's completely different. Those are "events" with bands and socials and formals. It's like Mardi Gras in November. This is a September football game in Lafayette.
I keep hearing people say there's going to be 40K at the Southern-UL game. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying it. I'm going to say 30-35K, at the most. I don't think this game approaches the A&M game, and I'll be delighted if I'm wrong. I think Southern will bring probably 6-8K and UL will have 24K-26K.
Notre Dame is playing Washington St. in San Antonio in October. There was a deal to play Baylor at the Superdome in 2012 (I believe) but, ND decided to pull out of the arrangement before contract was signed. I would have enjoyed making the game.
I really like the idea of neutral site games like Bama vs Clemson/Va Tech. LSU will likely play UNC in Atlanta to kickoff 2010. Not sure if ULL is at the point of being able to play neutral site games but, it would be fun to see since that is the trend in college football.
That's what I've been screaming. It's just not logical to think they will bring that many people when they don't support it at home. Like you said, the "events" that they bring tons of people are areas with large alumni bases and they are in itself "events" usually against another SWAC team for which they have an interest in defeating. I've been skeptical of their ability to bring that many people and I hope they do not. I do not want to play a home game where the visiting crowd and especially their band, will be louder than the home crowd.
