It's a shame when a kid like this will bolt for a team like Minnesota. He should have been a lock for Bustle and crew. We need to seriously enhance the appeal of our program. Time to invest some money in UL football.

Minnesota is in a BCS conference, with a brand new on campus stadium which is bad ass. They are demonstrating a commitment to athletics and are committed to winning in the Big 10. They also can tout alumni like Ben Utech, Lawrence Mulroney and Marion Barber the last two are stars for premier teams. We have Jake and the Sunbelt, no comparison. We have to work a lot harder than the BCS schools to land kids.
Cry me a river. No chance in hell should he have been a lock for Bustle. Why didnt Dooley get him or Toledo? Believe me, we are recruiting with Tech and Tulane at times and neither got him. Also, where have you been over the last few years. The "time to invest" argument is old. We are investing in case you didnt see the facility upgrades, RCAF creation and other donations we have received. Again, how should we be a lock for a player that has a BCS offer?
Its recruiting, there's no such thing as a lock.
The point is that kids like this jump on offers from these big schools simply based on the schools reputation. Many of them may recieve minimal playing time throughout their college career, whereas they would have likely started three years over here. How much playing time would Fenroy have gotten at Ole Miss? Yes, we are starting to spend money, but if you would take a drive down to Ruston or Hattiesburg, you would see two schools that are spending a whole lot more and are having success.
They spent their money on coaches. We have new turf, an IPF, we are re-doing our softball and track/soccer complexes and the football and baseball upgrades are probably within 5 years. Dont tell me we arent improving ourselves. Just because we dont have a loud mouth punk as a football coach, doesnt mean we cant continue to grow. We are getting there in a good way within our means. Now if you want to talk basketball, then you may have more of an argument.
Not what I'm trying to say.
But that is the reality. It seem as if that is exactly what you are saying especially in your comparison to USM and La Tech. The fact is, we are spending money albeit its not on what you see first hand or would consider to be a precursor to success. However, for us, it is . We have spent a ton of money just refurbishing the athletic dorms which for years kept us down in getting good recruits in here due to the inadequacy of the facility. The IPF is a huge boost for our recruiting and we're also doing it on the soccer and track fronts. We have a 12 million dollar athletic budget and we have to use all those funds on all sports. We have recently gotten the RCAF underway and those funds are being put to good use in the assistance of improving the culture here. You say we're not spending money but the fact is we are. If you don't like the amount we're spending, that is the reality of our situation as we are financially strapped and have to allocate funds properly. Its not that the administration doesn't take football seriously, but they have to budget improvements especially in a recession.
