Day 8
The Cajuns enjoyed their shortest practice of fall camp on Friday, as the team glided through only eight periods. The players also took off their pads for the light work, designed to prepare the offense and defense for Saturday's scrimmage.
"We cut it back to get in some mental reps," Cajuns wide receivers coach Daryl Mason said. "Practice was designed to save some legs. Hopefully, we'll be fresh in the scrimmage."
The Cajuns will scrimmage at Cajun Field on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
The offense and defense worked on both fundamentals and schemes during Friday's session.
The final period was scheduled as a 31-minute separate walk-through for the offense and defense. Lightning was detected in the area, which forced a slight interruption, as practice moved inside the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility for the final 15 minutes.
Saturday's scrimmage is scripted to around 125 plays. The ball will be spotted at pre-determined yard lines and each series will be limited to seven plays.
"The goal is to execute," Mason stated. "We want the guys to play hard, give great effort and stay focused, but the main thing is execution.
"Right now we are trying to see who can help us and who is ready to help us. The focus is not bringing it all together with one group right now, just seeing how many people we have that can contribute. Once we get that set, then we will see how we can package our personnel and attack our opponents with that personnel."
The team will not practice on Sunday, instead they will enjoy media and photo day. The Cajuns return to the practice field on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
