Default Former LSU D-Lineman Transfers to Troy

Read about the transfer in an Alabama paper...

"Sidell Corley, a sophomore defensive lineman who recently left LSU, is transferring to Troy, his father Sidell Corley Sr. said.

“They’re trying to get him enrolled in classes, get a physical and get him on the practice field today,“ Corley Sr. said. “He had offers from some Big 12 schools, a Big 10 school and they had the same offer as Troy—a full ride—but he wanted to come back in the state. That’s the reason he left.“

Corley signed with LSU in 2007 out of McGill-Toolen in Mobile and redshirted that year. He played in just two games last year. He dealt with tragedy in May when his mother, Janet Penn, was shot and killed in her home and a week later, when his uncle drowned.

Corley Sr. said he is forwarding obituaries and news articles to Troy athletics director Steve Dennis, and it is now up to Troy to file the waiver with the NCAA that would allow him to play immediately. He said LSU had been helpful in giving Corley his release.

“Troy was willing to deal with his situation, even though he would be coming to camp late,“ Corley Sr. said. “He can get the same out of Troy as he could Alabama, Auburn or UAB. His ultimate goal is to play in the NFL and in the state of Alabama, Troy has done better than anybody lately as far as getting guys to the NFL.“

Troy does a phenomenal job at getting talent. They have clearly staked their spot at the top of this conference, and we all now have to try and catch them.

Whats Troy's APR score? They take in alot of JUCO and transfer talent. I wonder how they are doing. You never hear of Troy players getting in trouble.

Troy gets a transfer from a BCS school, we (Louisiana) get a transfer from Northwestern State. I get so tired of waiting for someone to take us to another level, UP not down.

I understand the frustration but it was nobody's fault that we didn't have somebody like him drop in our lap like Troy. The kid and his father have clearly stated that his goal is to get into the NFL and he wanted to go to a school that was A) in his backyard since he's from Mobile and B) has a history of sending players to the NFL as of recent years and C) somewhere that he could play immediately. Also, don't think that he pretty much had to go to Troy since he's applying for a waiver from the NCAA to allow him to play this year but he almost surely needed to stay instate citing his family's recent health issues as his reasoning. It only made sense that he go to Troy

Sorry for the losses he has suffered in his family but I hope the ncaa turns down this request. As you point out apparently one of the reasons for choosing Troy is to aid in getting the waiver to play immediately. If he were truly going to Troy for hardship reasons he wouldn't have entertained offers form the Big 12 and Big 10 schools as mentioned in the article. It sounds like you are correct in that he left lsu in order to get immediate playing time and move on to the NFL. Think if he has a good year at Troy he then applies for a hardship waiver from the NFL to enter the draft early?
