Day 6
The Cajuns wrapped up their first week of practice with their sixth day of workouts. The team spent about 90 minutes on the practice field on Wednesday before moving over to Cajun Field for a short scrimmage.
The scrimmage lasted less then 30 minutes, but it was enough for head coach Rickey Bustle. The Cajuns will practice in shoulder pads on Thursday and Friday before a full scrimmage ensues on Saturday morning.
After a three-and-out stand by the Cajuns defense, the offense proceeded to fumble on back-to-back possessions.
"We came out here (to scrimmage) in order to get ready for Saturday," Bustle said.
"I was disappointed with our offense. Their execution was not sharp. We laid the ball on the ground several times.
"I thought the defense made some nice plays."
The first signs of life from the Cajuns offense came on a 19-yard completion from Blaine Gautier to Richie Falgout. Ian Roberts followed with a 13-yard run, but the defense forced him to fumble. Luckily for Roberts, the ball squirted out of bounds.
The defense racked-up another three-and-out, but then Brad McGuire found Luke Aubrey with a deep ball on the left side. Aubrey spun away from a pair of defenders and raced untouched into the end zone for a 70-yard score.
The defense came back with a sack by Jezreel Washington and snuffed out a reverse with a tackle-for-loss.
"I was really impressed with the big play that Luke Aubrey made," Bustle added. "We'll work hard these next few days. We should improve on Saturday."
