Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team announced the 2009 captains on Wednesday as senior Courtney Hofland, junior Kelli Jestes and redshirt-sophomore Gayla Foster were chosen to lead the team this season.
Hofland returns for her final season having played in 58 games over her illustrious career. She currently sits tied atop UL’s record books with 15 goals scored and 37 total points. Last season Hofland was the second-leading scorer on the squad, netting four goals and one assist.
Jestes has been a staple of Louisiana’s offensive power over the past two seasons. After a superb freshman season in 2007, she kept up her scoring parade in 2008, adding eight points to her career total (28). Last season, she played in all 19 games, making 16 starts on the year.
Foster sat out the 2008 season after suffering a season-ending injury during the preseason. During her freshman year she played in all 21 matches for the Cajuns, making 19 starts and was a part of a defensive unit that posted six shutouts.
The Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team will kickoff the 2009 season with an exhibition game against former UL soccer alumni on Saturday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. Gametime is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
