      Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team announced the 2009 captains on Wednesday as senior Courtney Hofland, junior Kelli Jestes and redshirt-sophomore Gayla Foster were chosen to lead the team this season.

    Hofland returns for her final season having played in 58 games over her illustrious career. She currently sits tied atop UL’s record books with 15 goals scored and 37 total points. Last season Hofland was the second-leading scorer on the squad, netting four goals and one assist.

    Jestes has been a staple of Louisiana’s offensive power over the past two seasons. After a superb freshman season in 2007, she kept up her scoring parade in 2008, adding eight points to her career total (28). Last season, she played in all 19 games, making 16 starts on the year.

    Foster sat out the 2008 season after suffering a season-ending injury during the preseason. During her freshman year she played in all 21 matches for the Cajuns, making 19 starts and was a part of a defensive unit that posted six shutouts.

    The Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team will kickoff the 2009 season with an exhibition game against former UL soccer alumni on Saturday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. Gametime is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

  2. UL Soccer UL Soccer Set To Host Alumni Match Saturday


      The 2009 UL Lady Cajuns soccerer team will faceoff against Louisiana soccer alumni on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

    Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team will begin the 2009 season on Saturday with an exhibition match against former Cajun alumni at the Ragin' Cajuns Track and Soccer Facility. The match is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. and admission is free for the public.

    Saturday's match will kickoff the 10th anniversary celebration of Ragin' Cajuns soccer. The 2009 squad will feature the team's leading returning scorer and lone senior, Courtney Hofland. Last season she scored four goals and tallied one assist to bring her caeer goal total to 15. Taking the field alongside her will be juniors, Chelsea Balestra and Kelli Jestes. Each recorded three goals and two assists last season.

    The alumni team will be comprised of former Cajun stars, including Bridgette Adorno, Ashley Delahoussaye, Taunya Geelhoed, Stephanie Lynch, Kristen Malen, Callie Oliver, Meredith Smith and Lindsey Webb to name a few.

    The 2009 roster will have their hands full as many of the alumni are featured prominently throughout UL's record books.

    Oliver is tied atop the record books with current Cajun, Hofland, with 15 career goals, while Malen ranks highly with 9 career shutouts and a 1.47 GAA as goalkeeper. Other highlights from the alumni squad include Geelhoed, Smith and Webb's career-best 72 matches played for UL and five former Cajuns are ranked among the top-10 in career total points. Four players were named to the All-Louisiana Team over their careers with Lynch earning Second Team All-Sun Belt in 2007.

    The Ragin' Cajuns' regular season will begin on Friday, Aug. 21 as McNeese State comes to town for a match scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer and Track Facility.

  3. UL Soccer UL 2009 Lady Cajuns Alumni Game at Gator Cove

    I couldn't stay till the end ... had to get to work, but when I left the 2009 team was up 2-1. I do know that no matter how the game turned out . . . UL won

    I was able to take a few pics, I plan on making a slide show and giving the other 150 pics to the athletic department.

  6. UL Soccer Soccer Takes Down Alumni, 5-3


      In a friendly exhibition match, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team was able to outscore the Cajuns alumni, 5-3, on Saturday at the Ragin' Cajuns Track and Soccer Facility.
    Delaina McGee led the way for the current roster scoring three goals on four shots.

    The Cajuns were able to jump out to an early lead after Jordan Blevins found the back of the net at the 9:39 mark. McGee scored her first goal minutes later at 13:12 and Allison Baker was credited with the assist.

    The alumni squad cut into the lead after Stephanie Lynch scored off an assist by Ainsley Breaux at 20:10.

    But the Cajuns increased their lead to 3-1 when Carligh Martin set up Chelsea Balestra at the 28:55 mark.

    UL's all-time leading scorer, Callie Oliver drew the alumni to within one with a goal off a corner kick by Lindsay Webb at 42:15.

    McGee would open up the second half with her second goal on the day on an assist by Kelli Jestes at 49:13 for a 4-2 lead.

    Ashley Delahoussaye scored for the alumni at 73:53 before the Cajuns sealed the win with McGee's third goal at 76:19.

    As a team, UL tallied 29 shots with 16 shots on goal. The alumni mustered 11 shots and five shots on goal.

    The Ragin' Cajuns will officially start the 2009 season with a match against McNeese State on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Ragin' Cajuns Track and Soccer Facility.

  8. UL Soccer Lady Cajuns Soccer Opens with McNeese


      UL – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team is set open its 2009 season with two matches against two Southland Conference opponents over the next three days. On Friday, UL will face off against in-state foe, McNeese State, on Friday at 7 p.m. CT at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer and Track Facility. The Ragin’ Cajuns will then take on Stephen F. Austin on Sunday with a home match scheduled to start at 1 p.m. CT.

    The Cajuns hold a 3-1-2 all-time advantage over McNeese State. Last season, the Cowgirls were able to claim a 2-1 victory in Lake Charles, La. Kelli Jestes scored the Ragin’ Cajuns’ lone goal in the loss. UL’s last win over McNeese came in 2006 with a 4-0 shutout. Last season, the Cowgirls finished 11-8-1 overall. In 2007, the two teams played to a 2-2 double overtime draw.

    Sunday’s match with Stephen F. Austin will be the first meeting of the two programs. The Ladyjacks finished the 2008 season with a 9-7-2 overall record.

    The Cajuns will open the 2009 season with five home matches in the first seven games.

  9. UL Soccer Courtney Hofland sets UL scoring mark - Game Today at 1pm


     In the opening match of the 2009 season, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns played in-state rival, McNeese State to a double overtime 1-1 draw Friday night at the Ragin' Cajuns Track and Soccer Facility. During the match, UL senior Courtney Hofland, became the Cajun's all-time goal scorer after scoring late in the second half.

    The Cowgirls struck first and grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first half when Jana Barrow found the back of the net at the 15:54 mark.

    At the end of the first period, McNeese managed to out shoot UL 10-2, with five shots on goal. The Ragin' Cajuns' goalkeeper, Amanda Moorefield tallied four saves during the first 45 minutes.

    In the second half, the Ragin' Cajuns were able gain an advantage when McNeese's Jordan Picu garnered her second yellow card and was ejected from the match at the 57:14 mark.

    Hofland was able tie the match, 1-1, after the Cajuns were awarded a penalty kick with 7:15 left in the second half to send the match into overtime. With the goal, Hofland became UL's all-time career leader with 16 goals.

    With mere seconds left at the end of the first overtime, the Ragin' Cajuns sent two consecutive shots at McNeese's net but both ricocheted off the post to send the game into the second overtime.

    In the second overtime, the Cajuns were able to get off seven shots but none found their mark and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

    As a team, UL recorded 21 shots and eight shots on goal with McNeese firing 19 shots and nine on goal. Hofland led the way for UL tallying six shots and Kelli Jestes recorded four. Four other Cajuns had two shots each.

    Moorefield won the battle in the net, registering eight saves to Cassandra Reed's seven.

    The Ragin' Cajuns return to the pitch on Sunday to take on Stephen F. Austin. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT

  10. UL Soccer Cajun Women Seek First Win This Weekend


      After starting the season with a tough schedule, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team look to notch their first victory of the season on Friday night against Northwestern State at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer and Track Facility. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT. "It should be a very good match," said Louisiana head coach Scot Wieland. "We match up very well with Northwestern State."

    UL (0-3-1) recently went 0-2 on a road trip that included a 2-1 loss to Tulsa and a 7-0 loss to Oklahoma State. The Cajuns' Kelli Jestes scored the only goal on the road trip.

    "It was a tough weekend but we continued to build our team's chemistry," added Wieland. "We knew we were good enough to win those games, we just need players to step it up."

    Friday's match with Northwestern State will be the first of three straight at home games for UL including Baylor (Sept. 6) and LSU (Sept. 13)

    Northwestern State made it a clean sweep this week for the Southland Conference soccer players of the week honors with goalie Lindy Strahan being selected as goalkeeper of the week for the second consecutive week.

    Senior forward Chelsey Gibbs was named the league's offensive player of the week while freshman Kali Hellinghausen was voted as the Southland's co-defensive player of the week.

    Following the Northwestern State match the Cajuns will conclude the weekend by playing Baylor at 1 p.m.

    Baylor is 1-0-2 heading into Friday's Action with ties against North Dakota State and Rice. Their lone victory came over Lamar this past Sunday.

    For the Cajuns this season, Courtney Hofland and Jestes lead in shots on goal with four apiece. Hofland leads UL with two goals on the season.

    Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Moorefield leads the team in saves with 21 saves.

  11. UL Soccer Cajuns Hit The Road


      Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team will look to snap a seven-game losing streak when it opens up Sun Belt play at North Texas and Denver on Friday and Sunday. In conference-opening matches on the road, UL has posted an overall record of 4-2-3. Four of those contests were decided in overtime.

    Kellile Jestes and Cayla Chatman lead active members of the team in goals scored with one apiece, while Jordan Belvins leads the team with one assist. Jestes also leads the Cajuns with 13 shots on the season.

    Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Berlingo has recorded a team-high 28 saves this season. In the last two matches she has recorded 15 saves, including a season-high nine against LSU.

    North Texas (4-4-0) enters the contest on a three-game losing streak. In its last three matches, the Mean Green has been outscored 4-0. Michelle Young leads North Texas with three goals on the year. Goalie Mandy Hall has 40 saves on the season.

    The Pioneers have dropped their last two matches, losing to Oregon and Oregon State last weekend. Denver (5-3-1) is led by Kaitlin Bast and Kelli Breidenbach who have three goals each. Bast also has two assists.

    Goalie Lara Campbell has recorded 47 saves on the season in nine games.

  12. UL Soccer Winless Women Host 2 Arkansas schools this weekend


     Louisiana's soccer team is still in search of a win as Arkansas State and UALR come to Lafayette for a pair of matches this weekend. On Friday, UL will face the Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Sunday's match against the Trojans is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Both Matches will take place at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer and Track Facility.

    UL has won the previous five matches against ASU. The Cajuns lead the all-time series 6-3.

    The Cajuns have also put together a three-game winning streak over the Trojans, outscoring UALR 10-3. UL leads the overall series, 7-2.

    The Red Wolves sit at 5-4-1on the season and are 2-0 in conference play. In its last outing, ASU was able to defeat Troy 3-0 after taking down South Alabama 4-3 in overtime last week.

    Kara Nitti leads Arkansas State with four goals this year. Goalkeepers Susan Brown and Megan Stoltzfus have combined for a 1.46 goals against average.

    UALR enters the contest with record of 3-6-1. In Sun Belt play, the Trojans are 0-1-1 after a 2-0 loss to Troy and a 2-2 tie with South Alabama last weekend.

    Christina Veasley has tallied four goals for the Trojans. Rachel Maina and Danielle Dunsworth each have scored twice for UALR.
