Day 2

The Ragin' Cajuns second practice encountered a little rain on Friday afternoon as the team continued to fight through the typical Louisiana heat and humidity. The rain temporarily dropped the temperature below 90 degrees, but it also created a spike in the humidity to push the heat index over 100 degrees. As the temperature rose back above 90 degrees around 5pm Friday, the humidity leveled off to make the heat index a toasty 110 degrees.

Friday's workout was the Cajuns second in shorts and helmets. The team will add shoulder pads for Saturday afternoon's practice.

"I thought we were a little up and down today," offensive coordinator Ron Hudson said. "We did some good things, but we started a little sluggish.

"Guys are eager to put the pads on. They're not bored, but the drills are tedious. We lost some focus, but we finished strong. The last period was sharp, crisp and intense."

A short downpour early in practice forced the Cajuns inside the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility. The linemen went back outside to conduct drills after the rain subsided, but most of the skill positions operated inside to avoid the slick grass of the practice field.

"The rain added to the distraction of not being able to hit anybody," Hudson added. "That's when we lost our focus.

"It's a tough practice because the guys are still working hard, but a small part of them is already looking forward to (hitting somebody) tomorrow."

The team will not practice on Sunday, but will work in shoulder pads on Monday and in full pads on Tuesday.

Beating the Heat: As they have done in previous camps, the Cajuns continue to take four breaks during practice. The team stops for water and sits in the shade after stretching, after the first four periods, after the next four periods and at the conclusion of practice.

Beating the Heat2: On Friday afternoon, the Cajuns entered the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility to see the installation of two BigAssFans (yes, that is the name of the company), one at midfield and one near the east end zone. A crew finished installing the third fan in the west end zone during practice. The fans were installed to help circulate air within the facility.

Roster Move: The Cajuns added Lafayette native Paul Toce (St. Thomas More) to the roster on Friday afternoon. The five-foot-eleven, 225-pound defensive end wore number 51 at practice.
