Thread: Gulf Breeze Athletes look to make big splash at Division I schools

  1. UL Football Gulf Breeze Athletes look to make big splash at Division I schools

. . . Baldwin had 42 receptions for 682 yards and six touchdowns his senior year at GBHS, all coming from Brad McGuire, who enters fall practice at Louisiana as the Ragin' Cajuns' starting quarterback. A four-year starter at GBHS, McGuire led the Cajuns to a come from behind win over Arkansas State last season in place of the injured Michael Desormeaux.

Despite being the backup, McGuire had a higher completion percentage (66.7 percent to 62.8) and a higher passing efficiency (140.57 to 135.01) than Desormeaux, who graduated this past season. McGuire finished the season 20-for-30 with 223 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had 143 yards rushing and two touchdowns, 57 of those yards coming in the Arkansas State win. He played in eight of UL's 12 games.

Is the article trying to imply that Brad was a better qb than Desmo was last year and was held back? Hopefully they are only implying that he can be a better passer. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

I think they are trying to hype up the season and get people excited. That is what the local paper should do.

That is correct. Gulf Breeze is simply pimping one of their own. But, Brad could very well be a better QB than MD. It's a little early to make that argument either way. We need to see Brad in action when he's been running the offense and knows it's his to lose.
