My Visit to Campus

I took a trip to Lafayette for a friend's wedding this past weekend. This was the first time that I've been in Lafayette since June of 2008. I had read a lot on this website and theadvertiser.com about how much the campus has undergone comestic improvement. So, when I got there, I decided to take a walk around campus to see the improvements. And, I must say that I was amazed and proud at the same time.

It was great to see just how much a little pressure washing and paint can do for a building. I loved seeing every building have a name plate, something that I think is very important for visitors and new students alike. I love how campus looks and it makes me proud to be an alumnus of The University of Louisiana.

Seriously though, the new name plates on the buildings add a nice touch to the buildings.

I'm ready to go find my brick in the Walk of Honor when I go back to school in a couple weeks.

I love seeing the U, clean or not... and I really miss the Christmas lights on the oaks from, was it 20 years ago?

I am proud of UL for a number of reasons. Yes, the campus. Moreso the faculty who taught me.

But more than those is the culture of the place: an informal, collegial campus, where faculty and administrators do not treat students as underlings, but mores as friends, and even colleagues.

And also because we are one of a minority of large schools where the local community is truly kind, supportive and generous to the U and our students.

We don't realize how good we have it here, because not many of us have seen what it's like elsewhere...
