Thread: Greetings from TROY!

  1. Default Greetings from TROY!

    Hello my Cajun friends!

I know it's been a while since I poked my head in, but I wanted to stop by and say hello before the season gets started. I had surgery last week to remove my appendix so I've been trolling the different team boards a bit while I recover.

First thing I'd like to say is I am sorry about the whole sledgehammer "incident" last season. I was at the game and was very embarressed by the culprit. I saw where some of your fans were pretty hot about it, but rest assured that those responsible were chastised by us at GTT.

For those who made the trip up, the tailgating you saw was NOT typical of Troy tailgating. I thought it odd that no one showed up that game, it was really weird. I assure you, we love to tailgate and we do a good job of it (although not as good as yall i'm sure).

I'm excited about this upcoming season. We've been picked to finish first, as usual, so that makes me happy. I think yall got a negative rap, I think the Cajuns will do better than predicted. I know I'll be pulling for you guys every week but one, after all, the University of Louisiana is my second Belt team.

Well that's all I got, just well wishes and apologies. I want to make the game in Lafayette this year so I'll let yall know if I do. I really want to witness Cajun tailgating first hand, i've heard it is unrivaled in the Conference.

    Best wishes,

    Greg

A Troy fan went on to the field after the game last year and stole the sledgehammer (although I think it's an axe) the team carries with them at all times and tried to run out of the stadium with it. A couple Cajun players went up into the stands and stopped him and took what was rightfully theirs back.

yeah it was stupid and we as a fanbase were not pleased that this person did this. but that is in the past right? i trust no one here is going to hold a grudge, that would be juvenile.

Greg, let me invite you and any other Troy fan to come and tailgate with the Krewe de Chew. Check us out at http://www.ulathletics.net/krewe-de-chew/
Click on about us and when it appears scroll down to the bottom to see what Jay Eller had to say about Krewe de Chew tailgating. Now granted this write up was on homecoming tailgating, when we get a little fancier than the regular tailgating. But you won't be disappointed in this regular game tailgating, I can assure you of that.
Keep checking the website. In the next few weeks the tailgating menus will begin to show up for the home games. This will give you an idea of what to expect. One thing you can expect is that there will be no hassling. We want our visitors to come and enjoy Cajun hospitality, and want/expect you to participate in the fun and revelry. No need to bring anything. The food and beverages are on us.
You can't miss our site. We abut the West side of the maintenance building which is located across the street from the first base side of the baseball stadium, Tigue Moore Field. Two big white tents with prominent UL and Krewe de Chew signage.

Vien nous voirs, s'il vous plait, et laissez les bon temps les bon temps rouler! (Come visit us please, and let the good times roll!)

Done deal, Greg!! Hope you have fully recovered from your surgery, or that you are well on your way to full recovery.

By the way, I love Brats. Became addicted to them when I was stationed in Madison, Wisconsin many moons ago, in fact 1957. Liked attending a baseball game in Milwaukee, gorging myself on Brats and beer.

Hope to see you and other Troy fans when you all come to Cajun country.

yeah my wife prefers hot dogs, but for me it's always brats. throw some grilled onions/bell peppers on there and some heinz mustard and you have the perfect compliment for a Sam Adams Boston Lager.

    Greg,

Thanks for the post. I fear I was one of the fans you mentioned "was pretty hot" about the incident. After the players retrieved the hammer, the guy realized your cops were high-tailing it up the stands to get him. He cleared the top of the stadium with the cops several rows back. I got p.o. at the thought he might get away. I stepped in front of him & just shoved him in the chest as hard as I could. By the time he caught his balance the cops had caught up and grabbed him. I tell you they really gave him an earful. He was a real doofus, just kept this dumb smile on his face. A couple Trojan fans expressed the same reaction you did. They were really embarrassed by the guy’s actions. They really didn’t need too; as he was not representative of the Troy fans I have met over the years. There are a lot of ya'll here in the FL Panhandle.

thank you for interviening! that jerk deserved a couple nights in Pike County's "free motel." we are a very proud fanbase, one that takes pride in our team and our hospitality. most of us cringed when we heard about this. the thought of your fans thinking less of us as a whole was a big concern for us. i'm very happy we've been able to discuss this and clear it all up.

personally, i consider the Louisiana fanbase to be one of the finest in America. Every member I have met has been warm and friendly. i look forward to visiting your campus as soon as I can. Unfortunantly, it looks like this season won't be the one to do it. budget is a little tight. however, it is very high on my "to-do" list.

I'd like to invite all of you to come join our board if you have not already done so. www.gotroytrojans.com Feel free to put me down as a reference. we LOVE having fellow Belt school fans contribute. FAU and Middle have the most representatives, i'd like to see yall overtake them.

Do not worry. We, as a fanbase, know that there are always a couple of morons in the group and when alcohol becomes a factor(as I'm sure it was), you never know what you're going to get(ask my wife!). Anyway, I think most were more ticked at how we got handled and didn't even put up a fight until the darned thing got stolen. It was a shame the way we played but oh well.

With the upcoming season, a lot of us here have no idea what to expect. We are experienced everywhere except in the major skill positions which we lost our firepower. Whether these guys step up and produce is to be seen and will likely spell where we finish this year but we definitely feel like we can be a darkhorse in the belt. Look forward to seeing you guys come down this year.
