UL — The last time Yolanda Clark was in a classroom was 1988. It was high school.
Now, at 40, Clark is among the first-time freshmen who will attend the University of Louisiana in August.
“I don’t own a computer. I’m not up with the technology. I am starting from rock bottom,” she said. Unafraid of whatever challenges may come in her first semester, Clark’s mouth spread into a full smile.
Clark represents the population that UL and other higher education institutions are trying to attract —- adults who are searching for an opportunity to start or continue a degree and chart new opportunities.
Just as that older adult student population faces different experiences and challenges compared to recent high school graduates, the university’s trying to step up and provide tailored programs that will help them more easily adapt to college life.
But first, they have to come.
