I know the NFL tracks snaps per player. I don't think the NCAA does and that would be very difficult with the number of teams, packages and lopsided games every week in college football. I think the rule is pretty clear. You play one snap, it counts as a game played. 30% of the season rounded up to the next whole game. Football = 3.6 rounded up to 4 games.

I don't think you could count snaps, but you could do quarters.

What happens when a player gets hurt in the first play of the game but then returns in the 4th qtr? Honest question. Not trying to be a smartass.

From looking at our stats, they just track participation in the game, not each play. They do track who makes the plays on each play obviously (tackles, catches, etc). They may need to add a couple of additional sports info guys to track the players on each player.

I'm just saying with todays technology this is not a massive feat to accomplish.

In fact if they included 'down' participants they could lower the threshold to 25% it would still be more generous than it is now.

The only issue I see with that is that schools could take advantage of that because besides the OL and QB, all other offensive players rotate so often that many don't play 25% of snaps to begin with and they're not hurt. So if a player was involved in half the plays in the first 6 games, that would only be 25% or so for the whole season even though the player played full time (for a WR/RB) for half the year.

You'd likely still have to tie it in with number of games played in and none in the 2nd half of the season like it is currently set up. Shouldn't be too tough to figure out though.

If it was me and he is playing in the 4th quarter it would count as a game. I just think if a player is hurt on the first play of a game that should not count as a game.

I just think it opens a can of worms that would make everyone's life more difficult.

---A strict interpretation of the rules per Jay would certainly give him denial of another year---But the circumstances that could be pointed out will be the Cajuns hope---The number of plays as have been pointed out but I would add the performance level that he played at when in the games---Yes he is technically done but these are the points that could and should be made!!!

Jay pointed out in another thread that you are allowed to round up when making the calculation. 12 times 0.3 = 3.6. Rounding up 3.6 brings you to 4. Robinson played in 4 games, (It was less than 2.5 when you consider when he got hurt in the Tech and Tx State games). Therefore, it is highly likely he will be granted the medical redshirt without necessity of an appeal.

I asked about that calculation, but it seems that thread has disappeared. What Jay said was that you must play in FEWER than the calculation of 4 games. Jamal has not played in fewer. CajunT replied that "that's why you need to apply for the hardship", but Jay's article also stated that there would be no reason for hardship application.

Either way, if the NCAA uses common sense (a HUGE if), they will take into consideration that Jamal played so little in his fourth game (last week), and strike that outing as a game played...and grant him the extra year.

History tells us that they won't make any decision on this until (1) it's too late for Jamal to apply for the draft. And (2) probably not until after week 3 or 4 of next season. If we were in a P5 conference, they'd probably make a ruling within a week of receiving the application. That's just life in the S-BC.
