As T mentioned, you can see just by watching the games that Gabe is more of a polished football player right now. Scott will hopefully get there in time. As it stands, I dont think you're going to move Gabe outside because he's pretty much exactly what you want out of a slot receiver. Great on the bubble and tunnel and a solid blocker, especially for his size.

Bottom line, no one player replaces Robinson. Johnson will play more but so will Fuselier, Scott, etc. Riles is coming on as one of best weapons so I'm sure we'll see a variety of looks.

I never hear anything about Scott Austin. He was a highly touted 3 star receiver out of high school and was a prior Mississippi State commit. He seems to have good size and speed. Obviously he must not be ready to play but I never hear anything about him.

CJ Bates is going to get every opportunity to play more in Robinson's position this week. Bates is quick enough, physical because he has played defense and has good hands. He will not replace Jamal Robinson at this point of his development by himself, but he is their best bet to help right now. Austin played well in the spring, but it hasn't translated into the fall Jared Johnson will be able to do a few things outside that Robinson has done, but he plays faster in practice than he does in the games. He's thinking too much once he gets in the game and he slows down.

This is what I don't get about JJ. Tell the kid to run to the endZone and out jump the much shorter DB, and have TB lob it up. It doesn't get much more simple than that.

There has been a lot of speculation about the redshirt. Honestly, unless there's something really mitigating that would allow an exception, Robinson's career at UL is over.

1. You have five years to play four. Robinson is in his fourth season of playing.
2. A medical redshirt, according to the rules, isn't in the cards for Robinson because he has participated in 33% of his team's games. (4 out of 12).
3. Bowl games do not count in the percentage...but even if they did, Robinson would have played in just over 30% of his team's games.

So Robinson's only hope is for an exception to be made. Now, that is handled on a case by case basis and there is no clear statement as to what qualifies as an exception. Personally I don't see anything in this case that I know of that would warrant an exception. The fact he was injured early in two of the games is irrelevant, because the NCAA clearly states once you play a single down, it counts as a game played.

As soon as HUD said "I'm confident he'll get the hardship" that spoke loudly that he wouldn't. Because that's what coaches say. I remember Jessie Evans talking about Blane Harmon in that regard. Kept saying it all the way up to the final decision.

I'm hoping against hope for an exception but I don't see one coming. We'll find out once the paperwork is filed.

I disagree. I am 75% sure he will get the medical redshirt. I played college football and I have seen it happen with similar to worse circumstances. You can take the justin kids that played at UL for around 8 years for instance. Was a deep snapper.

so why did you not call bullsht when hud said it? why is there even an appeal process? not saying he will or wont but if its that cut and dry then they would know the answer. maybe they take into account where he is with regards to graduation, his nfl career etc. was rodney gillis an extenuating circumastance? l'marcus gibson?

I'd say that if an expectation was to be made, the fact that he played just barely over the % of games and barely played in 1/2 of those games ... that at least makes for a case I'd say.

But I agree that HUD would say that either way. Let things play out down the road and him being "disappointed" is better than if he said he didn't think Jamal would get it and be "pleased" when he did.

I honestly think he will get a fifth year of eligibility. The fact that he didn't red shirt will play a factor imo

OK guys. Go ahead. But the rule is clear. The question then becomes, is there an extenuating circumstance that might help him out.

Because "barely over the percentage" isn't going to fly.

And, the fact he didn't redshirt makes no difference because he's over 30 percent. He's played four years. That's all you're allowed unless one of those years is under 30%
