Thread: Louisiana College Revamp Panel

  1. #1

    Default Louisiana College Revamp Panel

    From John Maginnis' site -

LSU, SU Get Seats on Higher Ed Commission

Nine members have been selected for the commission to recommend how to restructure higher education, but the governor's naming of his appointees already has caused a stir in the university community.

For his two picks, the governor chose the chairmen of the LSU and the Southern Boards of Supervisors: Blake Chatelain and Tony Clayton. The Board of Regents, which will administer the commission, has one board seat and named two others, as set out in the statute.

That leaves the University of Louisiana System and the community college system without official representation. The governor giving LSU and Southern seats surprised some legislators and college officials, who expected a "non-partisan" board, in the words of one. Their concern is that, when school or program mergers are discussed, Chatelain and Clayton will be inclined to protect their systems' turf.

No surprise. I've always said to be cautious of the person who currently resides in that mansion in BR.

This is the old boy network at its finest. They keep Louisiana as a majority in the dark ages and a laughing stock of the US, but keep their minority interests well stocked and very competitve. I feel like my vote for Jindal was wasted. Ive changed my mind, Jindal for President in 2012! Gotta kill the Palin threat. Quick joke, whats the difference between hockey moms & pitbulls....you can neuter a pitbull.

"will be inclined to protect their systems' turf"?
Line out "be inclined to" and the truth emerges!

Our state government from top to bottom is irresponsible. Its going to get worse. Book it!

One day, my wife will break down and agree with me to move our family to the Texas Hill Country, and I can finally say good riddance to the half-brains in Baton Rouge and the slack-jaws who keep sending them there.

Everything north of the Red River to Arkansas.

Everything east of the Atchafalaya to Mississippi.

Everything west of Acadiana to Texas.

    Who's with me?

i'm on the same wavelength with you, nation. the only difference is i'm thinking of an eastward migration to western north carolina. never thought i'd entertain leaving here again once i returned from military service. but this place is getting downright slaphappy. i don't know how much more i can take of the ignorance, the arrogance, and the plain old tomfoolery of our so-called leaders. i really was crazy enough to believe that this time, with pishnook jindal, or whatever the hell his real name is, this time would be different. fooled again. but i won't be fooled to many more times. sorry for the highjacking, everybody.

I'm already there (close anyway). We bought a house about an hour from Austin, and don't plan to go back, as much as I love Lafayette. It's too bad Lafayette is stuck in Louisiana.

I warned all of you about Jindal several months ago. He says one thing and does the other. His problem is he thinks he's smarter than everyone in this State because he went to Brown University and that he can "fool" us into voting for him.

And, Yes, I voted for him. Twice. So, I was a fool.

I voted for Blanco the first time around due to her being a friend of the family and kind to the oil and gas industry. I voted for Jindal the second time around, and I've been very unimpressed so far. Oh well, I'll be moving to Texas in September so Louisiana politics won't be of much interest to me anymore.

The best way for UL to gain any leverage in the state is by joining league with LA Tech. Not pursuing WAC membership when Tulsa, Rice, SMU, and UTEP bolted was a crucial mistake. Both of our schools would have benefited from the partnership.

Oh well, we got to play with the hand we drew I guess. Good luck to y'all this year!

Not joining the WAC was a smart move. Maybe the only smart move our Admin made in the past 10 years. In any event, it is water under the bridge.
