Then they attack others for trying to make sense, and explain why these things happen to ul, by calling them 'ppl whom except mediocrity'. It will never click for these ppl.

    1) What does realistic expectations mean to you? Going to a bowl game before I die is my expectation.
2)No doubt we are sorely underfunded. Who do you blame for that? The fans? No I don't think so. The admin for not being serious about football? BINGO!
    3) Not trying to attack others just defending my position. You and others make a valid point. Those of us that think that after 8 years there should be no more excuses also have a valid point. I try to never forget we are fans and all want the same things. If you think I tried to attack you I apologize.
    4) I do think some of you guys expect mediocrity. Eight freaking years dude! Programs have gone from scratch to 1-A in that period of time. You can also earn a Phd in that time span. Eight years is a loooong time. Is Bustle to blame for football? He is the coach so ultimately yes! BTW He was well aware of how much money he was going to make. A mistake some of you make is that you believe paying more will get you better results. If Bustle can't do the job for what we pay him then lets find a younger hungrier guy that is excited about making that kind of money for coaching football. Ultimately none of this matters because I believe Martin Hall is not serious about football.

The only reason we had to forfet games was because 1 the NCAA changed the way it looked at distance learning courses and 2 because our compliance officer was incompetent. The same mistakes were made while she was at ASU.

Evans didn't keep his players eligible, but he won games. Lee was on that staff as well and he didn't help keep those kids eligible then either.
    Thank you.

You seem to be contradicting yourself with that last sentence, though. Isn't using inelligible players a violation of NCAA rules? And please don't confuse my opinions of Evans as defense of Lee.

Here are the facts: Evans brought the program up. Evans bailed on us. The basketball program has to forfeit past games for things that occurred under Evans' watch and the program goes into the toilet under Lee. Evans gets run out of San Fran for alegedly committing numerous "secondary'' NCAA violations amounting to the "loss of control'' of the program. (Evans has sued the university for this statement.)

Pardon me for not thinking very highly of the guy.
The NCAA clarified the rule after the fact!

The ONLY reason UL recieved sanctionsis because the admin offered up it's own undeserved punishment.

The whole issue was so incredibly public it wasn't funny. All the way down to this is what Orien needs and this is the plan of action. It was all report in real time by the media. A new NCAA chief looking to make a name for herself sharpened their interpretation, while UL fed the beast with sanctions on a silver platter.

Evans made us compete in practice, never letting us know who was going to start until minutes before the game. He made the team fight against each other at practice. You had to earn that ____... Evans was Evans, however you look at it.... Post season play almost every year. Top of the league almost every year... No one was bribed to come either, we hardly ever had any money to get food... Players came to UL because of the players that were here. I came, becuase of Blane Harmon, Orlando Butler, Lonnie Thomas. Mike southall came because of me, Laurie Bridges, Anthony Johnson... Orien Greene came for the same reasons as well as Tiras Wade. Dwayne Mithchell came becuase of the N.O. connect of Laurie Bridges and Toine Landry... No one came really because of Evans, we came because of the talent of the players Evans already had at UL. The players just wanted to win games and play basketball everyday...
    That's interesting.

    Thanks

Ok. I've been out of town for a few weeks, and I am bored, so let me interject someone else into the mix (only because i have had a miserable summer and I love the abuse i get on this board).

What about Robichaux? Like I said above, i've been out of town for a few weeks. I get back yesterday, and my "source" tells me that we have lost a couple more baseball players. What gives? If we don't get close to the regionals next year, i think we need to start looking.

    Ok. Let the abuse begin.

I hope none of the above happens, but::::

What are the odds that all three coaches will be fired if this happens in the same year?
Do the basketball coaches in 2010.

Do the football coach in 2011.

With Obamanomics destroying Capitalism, we have to be financially prudent which means no buyouts of football coaches.

Well who could replace the man who created baseball here at UL? (sarcasm off)

If we hover around .500 again next year in all four major sports we should clean house across the board. All four coaches would have to be replaced if the funds are there. Bustle, Lee, Rogers and Robe. It would take about 1.5 million to hire all new head coaches. I am sure we can find that somewhere from within our support system. Also that is where the RCAF will come into play as supplement income.

It is all dependent upon who is ponying up the money and what they prefer. Football improvement has a much larger impact on our athletic footprint than basketball... or anything else. That does not mean I don't care about the other sports, I just think the larger animal tied to the wagon either pulls more load or becomes the biggest drag. The word in most circles around our state has been "you have a good baseball and basketball program, but you suck in football". Most still don't know that those two programs are in a pinch of their own. Perception is everything... it is a huge recruit issue. We can change the outcome of basketball overnight when we decide to. Pulling the football load up the steep hill requires massive horsepower... but when you get it right... it makes everything click... especially in Acadiana. We wouldn't know it first-hand because we always look for bargain deal after bargain deal. Those who don't invest in small pop stands... don't invest in small pop stands.

Basically, I don't like talking publically about our coaching changes. But, the first order of business in UL athletics is to get the football beast healthy... whatever that takes. If in attempting that, too many rabbits and squirrels keep chattering about their share of the meal... let's just put rabbit and squirrel in the pot. The beast has got to feed.

Perhaps Jessie wasn't as brilliant with the X and O stuff as some in the ACC, however the points Brad brings up are also important attributes of a coach. Knowing how to motivate is extremely important. Recognizing what works for one guy may not for another is something some people never grasp. He also had guys who did a good job in their roles. Brad was a floor leader/outside shooter while Laurie Bridges was a good all around player who was a defensive stopper. Guys like Cedric Williams were rebounders. Overall, Jessie was an underrated coach.
