Well, that excellent coverage was wrong. The Cajuns ranked 111th in the nation in rushing defense last year (213.25 yards per game). UL had, unfortunately, one of the worst defenses in the country last year.

If anything it would be 7th in the nation in run OFFENSE----with Des and Fen I think this could have happened!!!!
Don't you guys worry about Gautier. He has looked really good in the spring and by far made the most plays of any of the QB's. I look forward to seeing him in the fall. He has gained what looks to be a good 10-15 pounds since coming here already and he practices hard. This guy will be a gamer and I predict he will start at some point in the season.
I like that we have 3 game guys competing for the QB role. There is no doubt that each has continued to work hard to win the starting spot. That benefits the team all the way around. Hopefully, someone will emerge early on, in the coach's mind. It is also important, at that key moment... once all 3 have given it their all... and in advance of grooming around the chosen guy... to get that guy installed.
I so look forward to having many more of our offensive weapons get an opportunity to play a contributing role. The more combinations and permutations of assets you deploy, the more each will contribute. That is how the winning game is played these days.
The BIG difference between last season's defense and those that preceded it during the previous decade was the impact of injuries. I saw the defense play fine at several points in the season and I was left with the belief it could have been far better with just a little luck (i.e. fewer injuries). The personnel and coaching were there.
By the way I have never in all my years seen a school's entire Fall/Spring sports season so adversely affected by injuries.
Mrs G, we know you are high on your sons abilities...He will be a very good player for us...Right now, Mr McGuire is "the man"... That repaired sports hernia has him now in top notch condition. He will be hard to beat.
A mothers love for her son is something special, ain't it???

You know, Josh and I actually talked about doing a story on that, but we didn't quite know what angle to approach the story. But it's been pretty amazing how much this athletic department was riddled with, not just injuries, but significant injuries to significant athletes.
