Thread: Wide receiver depth a concern

  1. Default Wide receiver depth a concern

If senior wide receiver Jamal Robinson's absence proved anything, it's that the Ragin' Cajuns are a much better offense when he's on the field. That's one way of looking at it. The other way is that the Cajuns' depth isn't quite where they want it to be....

    1) Jamal is a stud, 2) Terrance's intermediate to deep ball requires a stud, 3) Al Riles helped open up the offense against GA State, 4) There's nothing wrong with Butler, 5) Stop looking at stats and use your eyes and mind to find the cause and the cure.

Unless Haack gets in the game we will only throw to one receiver anyway.

I love Robinsons play but would like to see our first completion against Texas state to butler or riles
Butler is very under utilized. Seems to catch all ball throw his way
I liked the two back set also with Harris and McGuire who ya gonna watch :-)

This article is a perfect example of addressing a symptom as if it were a cause. The delivery of the ball, both time and placement, are an issue. Jamal simply has a gift for making that much less of an issue. We cannot make 3 or 4 others into "Jamals"... and this staff better come to that conclusion stat. Riles proved through his utility play performance that our best option with Terrance as the QB, are to implement receiver routes that generate clear obvious open shots for Terrance. What works in practice, but doesn't seem to translate to Saturdays, isn't a failure on the part of our WRs... it's a failure of practicing against our defense. Jam our WRs at practice like they get jammed on Saturdays... and you'll conclude two things... we need to jam opponent receivers... and we need to practice routes (if Terrance is the QB) that create immediate, obvious throws for Terrance to make. The exception is Jamal. He can out athlete for the ball in a crowd. Quit expecting others to do that, and you'll be a better coach for it.

What you described is whys and wherefores of how Jamal should always be the second option. In my opinion this would actually relax TB.

If changes everything about who TB looks for, when TB looks for them, why TB looks where TB looks, watch what happens then ... and how.

“James Butler is the next most effective guy and we’ve got to get him touches,” Hudspeth said. “He’s an outstanding receiver.”

I've been saying this in some form or another ever since the Ok St. Game at Cajun Field.
It seems he only gets passes in 3rd and long situations with tight coverage and he catches the ball at his ankles or behind his back.

Ready for the Haack attack. Brooks throws a much better ball....and it ain't close.

Haack would make Robinson looked like a better player than he does now
