Thread: Opponent View: Ragin' Cajuns must fill big shoes

  1. UL Football Opponent View: Ragin' Cajuns must fill big shoes

Louisiana might be No. 1 when it comes to cool nicknames, but the Ragin’ Cajuns face a challenging 2009 season.

Last year, quarterback Michael Desormeaux, tailback Tyrell Fenroy and receiver Jason Chery combined for 44 touchdowns on the highest-scoring offense in school history.

Desormeaux, the Sun Belt Conference offensive player of the year, became just the eighth quarterback in NCAA history to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. Fenroy became the seventh player to run for 1,000 in four straight seasons. Chery set career highs in receptions (46), yards (656) and touchdowns (7).

The Ragin’ Cajuns will likely be much improved on defense with nine starters back. But the biggest key will be whether the offense can score points after losing Fenroy and Desormeaux. McGuire is not as dangerous of a running threat as Desormeaux, but is more polished as a passer.

If he thinks our 2009 season opponents are challenging, he ought to look at 2010.
