Walk-ons at UL have been and may continue to be a tremendous bonus for our program. Not to get too philosophical about it... but... we are historically undervalued by kids and highschool coaches in the surrounding area in football. There are two things that factor into some exceptional walk-on talent being a bonus, beyond other programs, for UL. We are in a hot bed of great highschool football and many good athletes think they are better than UL in our area. Many do not go anywhere to play. Many choose to attend UL for academic and locality preferences. Those kids, if they would still like to play collegiately, need to try to walk on. We are, without a doubt, in a great area for some superior walk-on talent. On that line... I would also in no way discredit our coaches for making strong decisions toward picking up on and playing many more walk-ons. A local kid with some passion, a huge heart for the game, and some evolving athleticism, could be the next great Ragin Cajun.
ey there, you have become one of the posters i always read to get your perspective,, with that being said.. could you get a bit more "philosophical" and explain a tad more of the above so i might understand what you're saying.. and i thank you
ps. z .. ike taylor used to play here and now plays for the world champion steelers
As well as Fisher, Bustle and Keyes. Walk-ons include athletes that were prospects injured their senior season, grades or over looked at smaller schools. The Cajun program has had good luck over the past few seasons with walk-ons. The three mentioned in the article would have gotten scholarships five or six years ago.
