No one did, but he was the only one that said something kinda negative. First thing I thought when I saw your post is that you were talking to or, about him.

I fail to recognize the "big brouha" over this young lady transferring to a rival school. We have inherited some from our rivals. No big deal!! Transfers to other teams/schools are a fact of life in athletics, and will continue to be a fact of life.

connecticut? isn't that the softball capital of the world? lol

i wont argue her numbers, but we'll have to see what she does being that her highschool career has been against mediocre opponents

I'll just say this: My comments are based on conversations with people with more knowledge and insight into this program than anyone else on this board. We can all have our opinions, but I trust what those people have told me. The belief is that the defense must improve next season, and changes are expected to be made to make that happen unless the said players show tremendous improvement over the summer.

Note: Talk of Verde moving to first base is likely more of a testament to the defensive struggles at that spot, not her inability to play third.

Some people said the very same thing about our pitcher who was POY. Said the class she played in for her high school was like pitching against fifth graders. But, she did play on a Travel Ball team that went high into the National competition. I don't believe any REAL coaches recruit based on a player's high school achievements. Fico made high school first team All American, but also, she was on a travel ball team.

In 2010, the Cajuns will have a lot of talent, but then, we've been having a lot of talent for a good many years. Sometimes, the talent just doesn't mesh into a TEAM. In 2009, I thought the players were not motivated to be a team. It seems like a lot went on behind the scenes that we knew nothing about. Think about it, a roster with 28 girls! Twenty-eight GIRLS! Emotions and hormones in sizable proportions! AND, everyone wants to play! You be the coach!

No doubt who you held conversations with, but those opinions change depending upon the current circumstances when you speak to them. We will see what happens this fall, but I do not see Verde at first base.

I think sometimes people over estimate the talent from year to year. If anyone had spoken to the coaches, would have been told this years team was not as talented as the previous year. You don't loose an All-American like Holly Tankersley and Melissa Soto, and expect to be better at the plate. Brignac's lingering shoulder problems reduced her innings and Donna had to carry the team pitching. If all are healthy, I expect this years team to be better because of the maturation of Ogeron and Murphy, as well as several very good freshmen hitting the field in the fall.

It's quite simple. The coaches will do whatever moves are needed to keep from having double-digit errors at first base, shortstop and third base again in 2010. None of those starters last year did enough offensively to offset those issues in the field. No one is untouchable. No one might think Verde will be at first, but nothing matters outside of what two particular people are considering. And it's definitely being considered.

On another note: Vanessa Soto was not an All-American as a senior, although she certainly played like one. She was a first team all-region pick for LSU as a sophomore and the Cajuns as a senior.

I didn't state "All-Americans", but said, "an All-American." But losing Soto was huge in terms of leadership, as well as her bat and glove.
