And to explain the Hud thing... I do believe a percentage of fans were so overwhelmed with his charisma and what that did to energize both the football program and the fans... they loved showing him the love. I still think he's massively popular with the majority of fans. I am one of those that really truly appreciates what Hud brings to the program and university. But, after having seen the football product... specific details with coaching this year... it warrants some criticism. Regardless of me or others being critical... I still think he can overcome the issues, make adjustments, and succeed. And I do believe the pressure of fans is both natural and necessary to bring about positive change.

In fact, this recent defensive consultant "hire", and the explanation given by Hud... contrasts drastically from what Hud said when he reacted to some of the fans' discontent with the defensive scheme. He completely endorsed the scheme, and everything else about the defense. Even last year, he stated early on that our secondary was "inexperienced"... but he totally justified the scheme we use. Strangely, now he is opening up the possibility that we need another coach's perspective on our defensive scheme (he's slipping it in gently... but he's slipping it in). The exact things that caused the huge posts on this site, are being directly addressed in his own response to the emergence of Matt Wallershedt on the scene.

Hud admitted that some of Matt's input directly effected our 4 and 5 man fronts against GA State. And I can guarantee you we were pressuring them 500% more than we pressured anyone before (and if they think harder about how to uncoach and recoach our secondary... more positive results will occur). The fact of the matter is... these latest developments completely exonerate the fans on here that were getting massively aggravated over our defense.

And there is some validity to Nation's comparison of Bustle versus what he faced... and what Hud is facing now. It does not in any way shout, "Bring back Bustle"... or "Hud isn't our man". But, I believe we're seeing what many of us see in our own job performance. It never hurts to humble yourself, listen to trusted advisors, consider the possibility we aren't perfect, and try something else... even something we prior rejected... that may help ourselves and our organization.
When I started posting on RP many moons ago, I was too passionate to take the role of the well traveled, Ole Wise One. While the passion is still there, I sometimes find myself in whizzing matches over minute details because I choose the "passionate fan" slot during the baldwin crusades.. Anyway, my point was, bravo, well said and you did an excellent job when choosing your lot on RP.

I don't take Nations comments as a bring back Rickey Bustle crusade either. It is also fair to say Bustle and his staff worked under another administration for most of his career without the resources and support that Coach Hudspeth has received. And it is true that Coach Hudspeth won with many of Coach Bustles recruits his first two seasons. But it is also fair to note that Coach Bustle couldn't win more then 6 games in a conference that seldom had more then 3 teams with 6 or more wins. Hudspeth has won in a Sun Belt Conference that has had 5 or 6 teams finish with 6 or more wins each season, including last season when 8 teams finished with records of 6 or more wins.

Coach Bustle spent 5 seasons building this program, afterwards he managed several bowl eligible teams. Coach Hudspeth has taken a mediocre SBC program and made them into a bowl program at the top of the conference. And he has done so raising large amounts of money for his program and putting in the recruiting hours on the road.

This makes me recall the old days when the workplace water coolers got the blanket label.

Attrition is a part of every signing class for every school. It's always been that way.

    This.

With the advent of redshirting, an attrition rate of 40 recruits every 5-years is the expected norm.

You folks that are able, tune in to the SEC network right now. Hate to say it, but that's a respectable SBC defense.

ULM attacked UK on defense in the first half. Their offense gave up at least 14 points, in that half. Then the offense went missing and defense ran out of horses. The point is, I can respect how hard they play, how the play to wind and are aggressive. No rush at all. They've done it every week this year.
