Coaching fraternity .... taking care of each other when they are out of work?
What is compensation package? RACF funds?
Seems like a lot of latitude to hire someone this far into the season.

I don't have an issue with it. It comes as good news to me. There are a lot of football staffs with some impressive defensive coaches that still struggle to adjust defensive schemes, assess the existing talent, understand how to utilize that talent, teach the details, watch film on opponents and tweak their systems... and so on.
I'm actually proud of Mark Hudspeth (and James Willis) for allowing another mind to help our team. James Willis may have operated and coached within a limited set of schemes. Having a third party consult on this is exactly what I would have recommended at this point. We knew there were some issues with defensive coaching. A respected third party, a colleague in the same business, is the way to go about analyzing the issues.
In all seriousness... I could not be more pleased with this decision. Even firing a coach or entire staff... and replacing them... has always disturbed me. "Scorched Earth" is not a business strategy. Getting a trusted advisor in the camp, closing the doors to all of the outside world, and doing an assessment... is exactly the correct next move. That consultant is probably a likely advisor directly to Hud, following the assessment of everything... including all of our current defensive staff.
Did y'all consider the fact that Matt may have been hired to consult on new helmets, a tower bell design and new music for the band?! Huh? I bet you didn't even consider that! But you sure shot your mouths off damn snappy!
I wonder about the funding and timing and whether the state board approval comes into play-----There are schools that are looking at our staff as assistants or HC positions and that could be a factor----If he stays it could well help our Juco recruiting in Texas and Kansas!!!
didnt willis also serve as the DC at Texas Tech? is that just a coincidence, or is this guy supposed to know the system well enough to come in and tell us where we are doing things wrong?
Why would we hire a consultant that got the axe 2 games in on a bad defense?
Anyone know what he did before Tech?
My opinion this guy will probably our DC next year.
For a moment, I thought I hadaccidentally wandered over to tigerdroppings. Some of you guys would b##ch with a handful of five dollar bills. Before this season started, Hud walked on water. He could have easily been elected Mayor of Lafayette by merely whispering that he was considering the job. Now some people want to question his every move. Hilarious.
If the defense improves after this move, Hud's a genius. If it doesn't, he's a goat.
Let the man do his job. I, for one, am pleased that he is obviously looking for solutions. It sure beats pounding that same square peg into that same round hole.
I agree.willis never give me any confidence when he speaks to the media and it pertains to X's and O's.
I think coach gave him a year to show what he had and this year coach is not impressed. He also did not do any favors when he attempted to leave after one year. I do understand it was Florida State but you have only been here a year.
the writing may be on the wall
Everyone recognizes we have a problem on defense. Making an attempt to improve, any and all attempts , is a great move. To sit and keep repeating what we have been doing and expect better results is insane. I truly believe the consultant will not make the defense worse.
