I will say, since you brought me into the discussion, that while I'm not any great business expert, I always thought you 1st had the demand for access to the product and with that demand in place you start to feed everything else from that demand. Just saying I don't know if anything runs parallel to demand, but what do I know...I'm but an average Joe.

Whatever the case, good luck in building the Cajun sports program into all that you want it to be. _
The "demand" (maybe need is a better word) is there for the pressbox improvements. The suites are part of that design. As I stated earlier the seating expansion was originally considered phase 2 but the rational is why repeat the same tourturous approval process within a few years when yo ucan just roll phase 2 into phase 1 and get approval all at once? and when it comes to doing the actual expansion who knows if they will still not impliment it in two phases?

I like your number in a later post.

On this current note, I wonder how many successful business projects in the past would have stayed concepts if they waited for proven demand. (?)

I've been reading the post on this topic for a while now. Everyone has a point. Except for that guy pretending to be a ULM fan. Not only would an upgrade, or expanding seating help UL, it would make the stadium more attractive for other events by the city, state, and entertainers. It would bring in revenue. I know we have the Cajun dome, but I feel there is absolutely nothing wrong with updating or expanding what we have. Of course, we all know with winning, more people would show up. I remember going to LSU games as well when I was a kid. Several times, the stadium was half empty. They were losing. But they had / have a nice stadium once the winning came along, people had a place to sit. I don't think our stadium is horrible. It can use some work, but its okay as it is. But I'm not going to complain if UL Fans are raising money to upgrade the stadium, regardless of records. It's okay to dream big. If you dream big, big things will happen. If you belittle every little thing in life, you will have a miserable life. That is the bottom line! GEAUX LOUISIANA!

I wondered the same thing WRT phases. Might be too "busy" trying to build the new suites/pressbox AND expand at the same time. Also, won't we lose some seating with the new suite/pressbox design? That would take us below 30,000 available seats; but I think we could still accommodate our current seating requirements for a couple seasons with what is left and the overflow areas in the grass endzones. Regardless, the upgrades are definitely needed and hopefully they will take care of some other needs like improving the restrooms too.

Hammer, all that you said sounds reasonable and I hope everything plays out in a way that's best for the Cajuns.

I certainly didn't intend to imply that I knew what was best for you guys or what you should or shouldn't do. If it came across that way, that was my bad.

Since the -much needed- expanded press box and suites will steal seating . . . you bowl an endzone or 2 to get back to NCAA FBS standards and end up with 15,000 more seats than you started with.

No offense taken. I was just pointing out that the initial driver for these plans was the pressbox expansion which has been needed for some time. If I remeber correctly according to Jay Walker when the New Orleans bowl was played here some temporary additions needed to be made to accomodate the TV media. The pressbox needs are easliy lost in the discussion about adding seating capacity since that is what most fans can readily see and focus on.

Do these plans include upper deck seating on both sides?

I would hope not. That proposition would be much more costly than the bowling effect.

Personally I would prefer an addition such as what USM did a couple years back. An expanded Complex overlooking the south end zone along with suites and additional seating.

Good, as none was intended and I can certainly see the need to update/expand the press box considering how quickly things become outdated in these fast paced days.

Keeping the TV guys and Jay happy is always a good thing.

I tend to agree. I was impressed with that layout as well. Doing a similar expansion in one of the end-zones would be attractive and less costly than adding an upper deck on the student side
