  1. Ragin' Cajuns Ragin' Cajuns Co-Equipment Manager Lynn Williams Receives Prestigious Honor

UL – Lynn Williams, the University of Louisiana’s co-equipment manager, was honored this month with the 2009 Glenn Sharp Award, given to the National Equipment Manager of the Year by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association.

Williams received the award – the highest honor bestowed by the association – at the Annual AEMA National Convention held in Jacksonville, Fla., June 9-12.

Williams recently completed his 25th year as the Ragin’ Cajuns’ equipment manager, a position he’s held since June 1985. He’s been a certified equipment manager since 1992 and serves as the AEMA’s District IV CEU Director (continuing education committee).

Williams was one of 11 candidates nominated by their respective districts for the prestigious award. He was chosen to represent District IV which consists of equipment managers from Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Williams was selected as one of the Top 3 finalists by a committee which reviews all 11 applicants. Then at the AEMA general membership meeting on June 12, Williams was announced as winner of a membership vote which included over 500 votes cast.

“This profession allows people like me to succeed,” Williams mentioned. “It’s an opportunity for people of all abilities to go out and do the job and be successful. To be voted on and be nominated by the people that I work with in the association is a tremendous honor.

“I can honestly say that I am proud to be a member of the AEMA and love the job that I do as an equipment manager.”

Williams attended UL from August 1980 through December 1985 and graduated with a degree in general business. He was named the Cajuns’ interim equipment manager in June 1985 and upon graduation was hired full time.

He and his brother, Lyle, who works with him as the Ragin' Cajuns’ co-equipment manager, help local athletic associations with proper fitting and maintenance of athletic equipment.

  3. Default ABOUT THE AEMA

      ABOUT THE AEMA
The Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) was started in 1974 with a handful of equipment managers concerned with the manner in which sport participants were equipped. These initial few have grown into a national organization of over 700 members, including male and female equipment managers from High Schools to Colleges and Universities to the Professional Sports.

The purpose of the AEMA is to promote, advance, and improve the Equipment Managers Profession in all of its many phases. One goal is to work as a group to bring about equipment improvements for the greater safety of all participants in sports and recreation. Members of the AEMA enjoy the opportunity to meet fellow equipment managers, share ideas, and learn more efficient techniques to help improve their work place

In 1991, the AEMA pursued the development of its members by initiating a certification program. The educational focus was targeted towards the five major domains equipment managers identified routinely in their jobs.

Yeah fr Big Lynn! Not only is he one of the hardest workers at UL, he's also one of the nicest people you will ever meet. This is a much deserved award to someone who does so much and receives so little recognition. I hope everyone local tells Lynnie how proud they are of him. He deserves it!
