  1. Default Another shootout could be looming

UL — It had been a while, but the Louisiana football team finally remembered what that winning feeling was like after it held on for a 34-31 victory at home Saturday against Georgia State.

Speaking of long waits, it has been nearly 11 months ...

Every game left on the schedule, with the possible exception of the ULM game, will be a shootout.

The defense can stop the run. I'm not worried about that. What I am worried about are the massive holes in the soft zone coverage our coaches decide to put on the field.

For those that don't know how to clear their cookies...

"Playing fast has likewise been an issue for the defense as a whole, as many players have cited the complexity of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's schemes.

'I just tell Rob, 'Man, stick to your stuff. Just let us play. Let us fly around. You don't have to overthink it. Just use all that ability you have on the field. I mean we have so many talented players, there's no reason to be where we're at right now as far as on defense. So let us loose, man,'" Vaccaro said. "It's like dogs on a chain, really.'"

We are giving up nearly 200 yards per game on the ground. I don't currently have faith that we can stop the run at this point, especially since we gave up large chunks of yards to a pass heavy team this past week.

What sucks is a large chunk of our rush D yardage comes off of big plays. I've counted 6 rush plays that have gone 30+ yds, 4 of those were for 50+ yds & TD's. Other than the big plays, our Rush D is actually pretty good

Unfortunately, we are still giving up the big plays so its hard not to count them. While they may skew the average a bit, I'm more concerned how we stopped the run, or lack thereof, this past weekend against a passing team that was using a CB to play RB.

I think the run defense has usually looked good on the inside. Where we most often have gotten burned is the outside where we lose containment so much.

That guy wasn't exactly a cornerback playing running back...

" Signed with Kentucky out of high school and redshirted in 2011-12 … Moved from running back to cornerback in the spring of 2012 … Was rated one of the nation’s top 40 prep running backs by Rivals.com and among the top 50 backs by Scout.com … "
