Twelve months from now when Mike Murray begins his second year as chairman of the Southern Professional Hockey League Board of Governors, the Knoxville Ice Bears general manager expects to be presiding more than 10 teams instead of seven.
Based on three newcomers - the Pensacola Ice Flyers, Louisiana IceGators and Mississippi Surge - Murray believes the seven-team league, which will begin its sixth season in October, will grow and gain respect in the pro hockey world.
Murray, who succeeded Columbus coach Jerome Bechard and has an option for a third year, is responsible for working with commissioner Jim Combs to resolve matters that crop up within the league.
