I'm not agruing the fact he was comming back off of surgery, but he didnt pitch very well at times this year. If he does that in the minors, he will not be there very long. If he does descide to turn pro, he must regain his control and learn to pitch. there are lots of 90 plus mph fastballs in pro ball. Best of luck to him on whatever descision he makes _
what killed him was an impatient coach sitting in the dugout..as a player you cannot perform at your best under those circumstances..knowing that if you have a bad inning or two or a bad outing or two you are going to be buried on the bench(like Osborne was)..Any player will tell you that, even at the big league level..Nothing against Fuse but we had a 3-4 week stretch early in our season where Fuse was our Friday night guy,Osborne was our mop-up guy after being demoted,Robe couldn't pitch because he developed tendonitis after pitching 5 innings in relief in the cool weather in the opening game against Nebraska and neither Cook or Wilborn were in the week-end rotation..In a nutshell Robe totally panicked 3 weeks into the season and totally blew-up our weekend rotation and as many players have told me because of this it probably cost our team 5-7 wins during the season..

I did not see a lot of games this year, but I did listen to a few where Wilborn pitched. He struck me as very inconsistent and prone to not being able to pitch out of jams. I looked up his stats and he was actually worse than I thought. 7.83 ERA, opponent BA of over .300, 36 walks, 15!! HBP, 5 WP in only 46 innings. That is not getting it done for a guy with his stuff. Robe may of mishandeled him, but at some point he just has to get some guys out.

ditto that! If he would have been able to get guys out, he may not have been "mishandled". If he would have gotten people out consistantly, he would have been a top 10 pick

I think when he does sign a pro contract he will be in a better place for his career. He will never get the chance to work through his struggles at UL. He obviously has very high potential he just needs someone to put some time in and let him work out of his jams instead of pulling him after two batters. Walking a hitter on a 3-2 count then going 2-0 on the next hitter and getting pulled doesn't do much for maturing a pitcher. But, at the pro level they don't care about winning or losing either. Not about conference championships. They don't have message boards full of people calling for their heads or angry mobs of people calling for them to sit a pitcher who is struggling.

On the other hand I commend LSU's coach for sticking with his man Blake Dean even after his 25 game hitting slump to start the year. Takes a lot of guts and trust in a guy to be able to send him out day after day batting 200 when he probably has a guy on the bench that could hit 300. I give him credit. He completely re-recruited after his first year there. He's able to bring in his type of players in one year and go to CWS 2 out of the first 3 years he's there.

I think it's a little easier to trust someone who's proved in prior years that they can overcome adversity, which Dean showed in two prior years. In the Dean refernece, it also helps that you have a team batting average of .350, so there's a number of players who can make up for one struggling player. LSU can afford to give up much more runs per game because they are going to score a large amount of runs per game. I don't think LSU would have left a starting pitcher in the regular rotation if they were consistantly giving up 7 runs per game.

Wilborn has always thrown hard, but has also always been inconsistent. Early in his career as a starter, he tended to have issues with his second time through a rotation. This year he tended to throw a lot of pitches, and was never consistent in the zone. That being said, I hope Greg returns because he does have great potential, but I don't think he will. What may be best for him personnaly is to sign and get in a situation where the team he's pitching for can afford to give up some runs with the goal of improving a player, which college coaches can't afford to do.

Couldn't have said it better myself....I think he signs because if he comes back he may not get to pitch all that much if he remains inconsistant
