Thread: UL looks to extend draft streak to 28 years

  1. UL Baseball UL looks to extend draft streak to 28 years

When it comes to the Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft, always expect the unexpected. At least that's what draft history has taught us, according to UL coach Tony Robichaux.

This year, the Washington Nationals have pegged San Diego State pitching ace Stephen Strasburg to be the first overall pick. After that, the rest of the draft is anyone's guess.

"It's one of those things you just don't know until it happens," Robichaux said of the draft, which runs Tuesday through Thursday. "Everything is an educated guess to the best of your ability. All we can do is talk about the guys you think could be drafted."

The players that Robichaux thinks could be drafted from UL are pitchers Zach Osborne, Justin Robichaux and Greg Wilborn, first baseman/designated hitter Scott Hawkins and incoming shortstop Kevin Lovelace.

"Osborne, a full-time reliever until this season, made the most of his first year in Lafayette."

Why does the media talk about the town more than the school?

You're looking too much into what was written.

Read the story, and you'll notice that I mentioned UL multiple times earlier in the article. In the sentence before the one you pulled, the word Cajuns was used. So I used Lafayette in the next sentence since that's where the school is located.

Damn, Lovelace sounds like a nice player that could step in and contribute right away! Which of the three current Cajuns mentioned are underclassmen?

I should have been more specific. Are there any more high school prospects in the Acadiana area that have a shot at being drafted in the first 10-15 rounds? I've always been impressed with the amount of baseball talent in the area and I try keep up since I played ball at 5A school there in Lafayette.
