21k
LSU game on at same time and beautiful weather will give us a great tailgate that day but we will barely see more than 20k. I'm thinking:
20,450
Just get prepared in advance to hear an attack on "the fans". That empty chair that you and I see is apparently vastly more important to a lot of people than you and I actually being at the game. I've never understood the psychology of faulting the attending fan for the behavior of the unattending fan. I guess there's some fickle person out there that I'm responsible for.
And then, of course, we've got the people on here that think the 200 people that are regular posters need to be cheered into a new and special role at UL. They are clueless that people needing the "UL outreach program" are not tuning in to Ragin Pagin. This is not the vehicle for getting the empty seats filled. It is also not the vehicle for condemning "the fans" for the empty seat.
The "UL outreach program" for "butts in the seats" is the program that you see on the field. Our admin has been trying to put the facilities together that we demanded... and helped pay for. Now it is time for the folks that we worship to step it up and show... not how perfect they are... but how much they want to improve by learning and applying intelligent methods to improve.
We shall see... my fellow Cajun fans. I seriously doubt the majority of you are responsible for the empty seats. And even for those of you that post some of the dumbest crap in the world (those offended by this remark... I was addressing you)... it will be good to cheer with you this Saturday. Geaux Cajuns!
23,560 plus my wife and I (our first game in two years) Maybe we will be the impetus to turn the year around.
Geaux Cajuns
J1M-Totally agree. It is disappointing that after years of complaining about not having a quality product on the field and now having one (except last 4 games!) we are still having such a tough time filling the stadium.
There's no controlling "the fans". UL has to control the things they have control over... and fans come and go as a result. The shame is that while you're complaining about the 10 thousand that didn't show up... like they're the VIP fans... the 20k that does show up is treated like crap. We, the active fans, are not responsible for the unattending fan. And I don't look at "the fans" as a gauge of how good "the fans" are. I look at the common sense reasons that increase fan attendance... and I rally to see those things improve.
And attendance is decreasing nationwide. HD tv feeds and the ability to watch multiple games in the comfort of home has had an impact as well
College football attendance is dropping dramatically overall. Big reason is the proliferation on TV of the P5 games, which greatly hurts non P5 and FCS support. I do believe that will have a big impact on us Saturday. The casual football fan will be watching LSU and Auburn come Saturday. Our only way to counter that is to put a team on the field that returns to playing with a style that indicates they want it more than the opponent.
Crazy idea.....
If attendance is dropping nationwide, why don't we do some exit interviews at Cajun Field to gauge fan enjoyment with the gameday experience? What are we doing wrong? What are we doing right? Ask them what they want to experience at Cajun Field. Then, give it to them.
Also, we should try to make the tailgating experience as awesome as possible. Tailgating sets the table for the gameday experience.
