thanks T
I know people are always complaining that we don't offer local kids
This kid looks to be a good one and almost a lock to come here, because of the history with his father.
He could step in after Grant Fleming moves on.
Looks like some other schools have expressed interest including, LSU, Rice, Texas A&M, Tulsa, USM and Northwestern.
Geaux Cajuns.
Its a great thing when our local guys stay home.
Bob Toledo’s pledge to recruit in-state players is gaining momentum.
St. Thomas More of Lafayette safety Cameron DeJean became Tulane’s seventh football commitment for 2010 and the fifth to come from inside Louisiana borders with a Wednesday morning pledge via telephone to Toledo.
Tulane coaches have recruited DeJean, 6-feet-3, 205 pounds, with 4.5 speed in the 40 and a vertical leap of 36 inches, as an athlete with an eye toward converting him to outside linebacker.
DeJean also had an official offer from UL and was being actively recruited by Tulsa, Rice, USM, Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech. Tulane offered DeJean during an unofficial visit he and his parents Jane Guidry and Fred DeJean made to the Green Wave’s uptown campus in May.
“I loved it,’’ DeJean said of Tulane. “It felt like a home away from home. (The campus) was like a city within a city. I loved the atmosphere. I clicked with the coaches. Coach Toledo has it going in the right direction. He’s trying to restore the program and he’ll definitely be successful. I’m getting in at the right time. I’m excited.’’
DeJean, whose high school position is free safety, also impressed Tulane’s coaches with his skills while participating in the Tulane High School Summer Football Camp session held at St. Thomas More on June 18.
DeJean is preparing for his second year as a starter, having rotated at safety a year ago with Cooper Gerami, a signee with Northwestern of the Big Ten. DeJean recorded one interception, but played the entire season plagued by a shoulder injury.
DeJean missed the first four games of the 2008 season with a left shoulder subluxation injury that required surgery following the season, but he is fully recovered and participated in spring football practice. St. Thomas More finished 8-4, tied for second in District 3-5A with Acadiana behind league champion Barbe and then advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.
DeJean additionally is fully qualified academically with a 23 on the ACT and a grade-point-average of approximately 3.0. He was recruited by Green Wave tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Doug Lichtenberger.
“I think Tulane got a real find in Cameron,’’ STM Coach Jim Hightower said. “He’s a very athletic safety. He has a real good ball sense. He’s real solid tackler. I think he’s going to become a complete player for (Tulane).’’
In regards to a possible switch to linebacker, Hightower said, “That’s possible. He’s going to be a big boy. He’s got a big frame and he’s going to get bigger. He’s a smart football player. He’s a student of the game and very aware of situations. He’s kind of a quiet leader on the field.’’
“Coach Toledo told me I have the body type to grow into a lot of positions,’’ DeJean said, “but it’s kind of looking like outside linebacker. I’m actually kind of excited about (playing) outside linebacker. It’s in the box and you’ll get to hit a lot more. At safety you can make real good reads and get in position to make the tackle, but maybe have somebody beat you to it. At outside linebacker, you get in on a lot more hitting. But I’m definitely excited to play either position.’’
So recruiting is done for DeJean.
“More schools told me they were going to offer me later in the year,’’ DeJean said. “But I knew I wanted to go to Tulane. There was no point in waiting.’
Probably a big fan of the Hornets and Saints.

I tell you exactly what's going on----whoever is recruiting this area for Tulane is kicking our ass---the kicker from Acadiana---the qb from Catholic High and now the Dejean kid---Same thing down on the West Bank in NO and into The Houma area---- Tech's guy is getting the players---Coaches even talk about this and know when they are against a top SALESMAN---it is a tough game and you have to have personalities to get the guys--obviously there are other factors ---but they are being sold on NO and the Tulane campus--give me a break about the Campus---let me take them 10 blocks away to the hood and I would scare the hell out of them---did the same with my daughter going play at Loyola----she was shocked !!!!!!
Our recruiting coordinator Wingerter has been in over his head for years. This staff has consistently failed when it comes to recruiting Louisiana prospects. A friend of mine is a high school coach at a school that produces division one talent every year. He says cajun coaches are almost never at his school and they see coaches from Louisiana Tech and Tulane at least ten times to every one visit from UL coaches. He also says the ULL staffs knowledge of Louisiana prospects is laughable.
What they do is take kids from out of state who no one has ever heard of because they want people to think they are getting the "grass is greener on the other side" recruits.
Derek Dooley and now Toledo have been kicking Bustles teeth in.
I might be wrong and I might be the only one that thinks this way... but I don't think the above comments make any sense... particularly the part about "What they do is take kids from out of state who no one has ever heard of because they want people to think they are getting the "grass is greener on the other side" recruits."
