The only thing I worry about is if this will draw fans away from the Cajuns (and I am talking about all sports here). A couple of thousand a game probably won't hurt us as we will make money off of the rent of Blackham. If it gets to the point that people are going to hockey instead of Cajun basketball or baseball, that may not be a good thing for us. if the deal is set up so that after a flat fee, UL makes more a small % off of each ticket, that will be a good thing. In reality, I don't expect this to hurt us much as most people now realize this is the minor leagues (low level at that) and the novelty of the 90's won't come back. Of course the product the Cajuns have put out in basketball/baseball has to improve.

I don't see how this will conflict much with the Cajuns. I will be there for the Southern game and as many home games as possible unless they really suck. I'm not buying season tickets for the IceGators. I will make as many games as possible unless they suck. If the Cajun football team isn't worth watching we will know this by October when the IceGators get going. I think an excellent idea would be for the Gators to schedule around the Cajuns. I would happily buy hotel rooms to hit the Gators on Friday and then the Cajuns on Saturday night!

As far as basketball, I think we are talking about two different types of fans. I like the full contact of football and hockey. A great Cajun basketball team will get my interest but not that much and baseball unless they are like the 2000 team forget it. However you have to keep in mind that in Blackham UL is getting the benifit unlike the Cajundome. I would one day love to head to Lafayette to watch the Ragin Cajun hockey team win their division. Also you got to love a guy like Ron Handy that stayed in Lafayette to grow the sport he loves. It just seems like a win win for everyone even those that don't care for hockey.

I just bought 2 season tickets at Brewskis. I think there may have been a couple of hundred people there, fewer than I thought might show but, there wasn't a huge advance notice for this 'Early Bird' promo so....

I don't think that UL Sports has to worry too much about losing any fan base to the IceGators. Instead, I think UL Sports needs to improve the teams fielded and that will put butts-in-seats. Same thing is going to apply to the IceGators. If the team is winning, people will continue to show up - start losing and, guess what? No big mystery to me; everybody loves to win!

They had the seating layout. I told them where I wanted my seats...sec D row 5 seats 23 & 24, I wrote them a check and that was it. Very easy. I would say they sold 125-150 season tickets. About the season. 28 home games, bus trips, season ticket holder parking (all parking free). Tailgating area, will spit shine and paint Blackham. Also said that plans for chair back seats are being looked at. Not this year but maybe in a couple of years. Met the owner Danny, GM and PR man. They want this to work both for the fans and UL. They also tried to get the boards and glass form the Dome but they said no....I think Davis want this to fail. They also had fans from Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and the surronding area...

Thanks for the information. I'm not surprised to see folks from LC or BR. I like the way this team is taking things. They are doing it slow and on the level which we are in. The IceGators of old were awesome but had NHL like amenities that we just couldn't keep up especially with all the teams that sprang up. I also love the way they are keeping in mind the community and UL. Will not be awesome to see Lafayette kids playing on the IceGators! I'm so excited for Lafayette, the IceGators and UL!

I'm surprised by the response. It's about 50/50. UL will be earning money off of Blackham and a successful IceGator team would be good news for the Cajuns. If you don't like hockey it is perfectly understandable. I just thought there were more hockey fans in Lafayette.

    Huh?

56% for and 43% against is almost a landslide victory.

That is huge when you consider that most of the polsters are UL fns and how the original Icegators were a thorn in the UL athletic programs side.

If you recall they made scheduling vey hard for Nelson.

That wil not be a problem now since they play in diferent venues.

Your post brings up several points:
    1) Why are you on this board? You are clearly a bandwagon fan AT BEST!

    2) If you love hockey that much, move to Canada. We won't miss your constant bashing of coaches around here. I like hockey too, don't get we wrong, but the Cajuns come FIRST!!! The Icegators will last 1 year and fold again I predict. I don't want them to, but they will due to lack of support. People will go at first see how back Blackham sucks and never go back.

    3) You don't seem to be a season ticket holder in any sport, attend any sport on a regular basis, or donate to the programs....so again, why are you on raginpagin.com?

    Yeah something here does suck.

A PR man you are not. You condemn the team before they start. And how in the hell do you know their will be a lack of support. Let it work out. If they put 3000 fans in Blackham they will make money. If they put a winning team on the ice, and God knows we want a winning team, they could draw 4-5000. You have a feeling that this is a UL town but it don't show in the stands, does it? And asking someone why they are on this board. Well I am a four sport season ticket holder, five counting hockey now. So please don't call me out on this. And yes I respect your openion. So respect mind and others.

Wow didn't see that coming especially from you.
    1) Been on this board before you, the delphi board and the way back when sportsonly board in the early 90's. You can try to label me whatever type of fan you want. This is America at least for now.
    2) Moving to Canada....Hmmm probably not unless Obama runs this country into the ground. I love hockey true. I also love football. Hate baseball and can only enjoy an offensive style of basketball. I think you are wrong about the IceGators. They are being very smart about how they approach the market this time around. In their heyday they spent as much money as they took in and there was a NHL like atmosphere for a few years in the Cajundome. I think you missed my point. I look forward to booking some hotel rooms this fall to catch a rocking IceGator team on Friday night and ending up in Cajun Field Saturday night. If both teams are successful it will really help the economy in Lafayette. I usually drove in and drove back for Cajun games. Also UL should get some money from Blackham which as far as I know doesn't produce much revenue for the school now.
    3) You are wrong. I went to two football games last year. Those were ULM and Troy. I didn't make it to Cajun Field last year. You are right that I don't hold season tickets nor have I ever. I'm going to wait to see the IceGator schedule before thinking about season tickets. I want to make sure I can make at least most of the games. If the IceGators and Cajuns suck I will not make many games. I will do other things with my entertainment dollars like catch a few Saints or Hornet games. I donated $100 last fall through ragincajuns.com. I haven't donated anything to RCAF yet. I plan on doing it but the summer months are lean months for me. Also I haven't called for a coaches head since last fall. If Bustle doesn't get it done this year I will be calling for his head.

Why don't you post your fandom resume?

In many ways I am not a sports fan, but I am a Cajun fan through and through. I enjoy whatever they participate in, be it football or softball. Therefore that is my only concern. If it is good for the Cajuns, I am for it. If not, I am against it. That is my bottom line and is likely the case for many others on this board. Note that 46% of the respondents to your poll say they won't support the hockey team. That is different than you sir who is more someone looking to be entertained. That is not good or bad, it is just a different viewpoint. However, I don't understand how you can consider attending hockey here but makes only limited no. of football games. Of course football is on the web while hockey is not.
