Europe - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns golfer Philipp Fendt was recently named the No. 1 amateur golfer in Austria after a fourth place finish at the Slovenia Open.
The Open was an Alps Tour event, which is a third level European Tour – comparable to the United States’ Adams or Hooters Tour. His fourth place finish propelled Fendt into the top spot in the Austrian Amateur Rankings and earned him a spot in the Kaernten Golf Open presented by Markus Brier on the second level European Tour – European Challenge Tour. Fendt, who was the Sun Belt Conference’s Freshman of the Year, was the top finisher among amateurs at the Slovenia Open, finishing the tournament at five under par. He closed out the tournament 13 strokes back of first, but was just three strokes back of second and two strokes out of third.
Fendt closed out the first round with a one under-par round of 70. Fendt shot back-to-back rounds of 69 to close out the tournament to finish fourth. For the tournament, Fendt carded 45 holes of par or better, including 14 birdies. Fendt carded just nine bogies in his 54 holes with just three bogies on the front nine in three rounds of competition.
