SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

• HAWKINS, ROBICHAUX PRESEASON ALL-SBC, Feb. 10
Scott Hawkins and Justin Robichaux were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team thanks to a vote by the league’s head coaches.

• CAJUNS DEFEAT #3 LSU 10-9, March 11
The Ragin’ Cajuns took a 10-9 decision at the new Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge from then-No. 3 ranked LSU. a solid start from Alex Fuselier and timely hitting, including home runs from Travis Whipple, Thad Griffen and Scott Hawkins earned UL its first victory over a top-three opponent since 2000, when they took back-to-back wins over top-ranked South Carolina in the Super Regional.

• BROOMS COME OUT VERSUS UALR, March 20-22
Double-digit hits and runs in each segment of a three-game series with UALR led to the Cajuns’ first sweep of the season.

• SMITH EARNS SUN BELT, LSWA POW HONORS, March 23
Les Smith was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week and the LSWA Hitter of the Week following an impressive weekend versus UALR.

• MIDDLE TENNESSEE LEAVES EMPTY HANDED, April 3-5
The Cajuns took their second Sun Belt sweep of the year with three straight wins over then-No.1 and eventual Sun Belt regular season co-champion and tournament champion Middle Tennessee.

• OSBORNE, FONTENOT EARN SBC AND LSWA AWARDS, April 6
Zach Osborne threw a win and a save while Fontenot went on a tear from the plate to sweep the Sun Belt Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, and Fontenot added LSWA Hitter of the Week.

• SEVEN-GAME WINNING STREAK, March 29 - April 8
The Middle Tennessee sweep served as the middle three games of a season-best seven-game winning streak, bookended by wins over FIU and Northwestern State before and over Tulane and Southern afterwards.

• OLASIN SQUEEZE GETS WALK-OFF WIN, April 14
A Kyle Olasin squeeze brought Matt Hicks home to break a seven-all tie in the 11th inning in a walk-off win over Stephen F. Austin.

• CAJUNS PLAY IN WALLY PONTIFF JR CLASSIC, April 22
Though the Cajuns lost to national-power LSU, the team was still honored to participate in the annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic at Zephyr Field, home of the New Orleans Zephyrs.

• TWO OF THREE FROM THIRD-PLACE TROY, April 24-26
Louisiana again surprised the Sun Belt when they stole two of three games from Sun Belt third-ranked Troy on the road.

• OSBORNE’S COMPLETE GAME EARNS SBC HONORS, April 27
Zach Osborne tossed a complete game shutout, the first complete game for a Cajuns pitcher in 2009, against hot-hitting Troy to earn Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time.

• HAWKINS ETCHES NAME IN RECORD BOOKS, May 9
Scott Hawkins hit his 40th career home run against WKU, becoming the Cajuns’ all-time leader and first player to hit 40 home runs. He finished the season with 42 and ranked in the top five in multiple offensive categories.

• LAST SWEEP OF THE SEASON AT UNO, May 14-16
In a crucial final series, the Ragin’ Cajuns needed two wins in the last three games to guarantee themselves a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and came away not with two but with three, sweeping UNO to jump from seventh to fifth in the final regular season standings.

• ROBICHAUX WINS CAREER VICTORY No. 800, May 16
With the third win of the UNO series, head coach Tony Robichaux won his 800th career game as ahead coach, becoming just the 30th active coach in NCAA Division I baseball with 800 or more victories.

• SINGLE-GAME DOUBLE PLAY RECORD FALLS, May 16
The Ragin’ Cajuns defense delivered a school single-game record of six double plays, including one to end each of the first five innings and stymie all offensive efforts of the UNO offense.

• HAWKINS ON ALL-SUN BELT TEAM, May 19
Scott Hawkins earned his second all-conference honor with a spot on the second team following first team honors in 2007.

• SINGLE-SEASON DOUBLE PLAY RECORD FALLS, May 22
The Ragin’ Cajuns defense broke the school’s single season record for double plays with their 64th of the season in just 56 games. The record of 63 was set in 2000 over the course of 69 games. The team finished with 66 this year.

• HAWKINS, ROBICHAUX ON ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM, May 23
Scott Hawkins went 6-for-15 with an .800 slugging percentage in the Sun Belt tournament while Justin Robichaux pitched seven stellar innings against eventual champion Middle Tennessee to power the Cajuns to their second win of the tournament. Their performances earned them spots on the Sun Belt All-Tournament team.
