Thread: Laodicean

  1. Default Laodicean

It might be considered the opposite of antidisestablishmentarianism and not nearly as long but with perhaps an even more colorful origin. I'm talking about the word laodicean and how I woke up this morning to learned something about the word.

I thought it was a proper noun and now I find out it is an adjective, but without going into the origin of the word I am fascinated with its meaning and why (or how) it came to mean what it means.

Oh and congratulations to the 13-year-old who took top honors in the 82nd annual Scripps National Spelling Bee by correctly spelling the winning word "laodicean."

Now if I could only spell the girls name who won.

... And there's still 3 months left? how DO we survive the summer with nothing to talk about? Ps spelling beep are a lot more fun to watch when they're only 30 minutes long accompanied by less intelligent color commentary (search Youtube for cheap seats spelling bee)
