No I think you misunderstand what I was saying. IMO the first order of business is to win the conference. That would lead to an automatic bowl game. Being healthy certainly helps in that goal.

I would love to see us have a winning record after the first 4. I try to make it to all the big non-conf games because I want to be there when we upset one of them. In that vein I just made my reservations to Lincoln tonight.

The rest of the nation? Every team at our level has to play the money games and tough out of conference schedules before hitting conference play. It's a part of the college football landscape so I'm not really sure why it is a shame. With the way things went down last year its a valid point because we still came out second albeit with a ton of injuries. How would we have done with few injuries?

Does anyone actually expect Rob Walker to play this year. I was assuming that unless he is just unstoppable in practices, that he would be redshirted until 2010, especially with the stable of backs we already have:

Yobes Walker--Big time recruit coming in after Redshirting last year.
Undrea Sails--Lots of Potential out of JUCO, but being behind Fenroy and injuries slowed him in 2008.
Julian Shankle--Showed some flashes in 2008 with a 4.3 YPC average.
Draylon Booker--Lots of Potential, how he has recovered from injuries in HS will be the key
Matt Dupree--adds nice depth to an already deep group
Ian Roberts--I don't know much about this kid.
Andrew Hebert--2009 Recruit, not sure where this kid could line up, but played DE, TE and RB in HS and put up huge numbers everywhere he played.

..and the aforementioned Rober Walker, who I believe will be a great player at UL, but considering the stable of players at this position would we not be better served Redshirting in 2010?

    Just a question?

Walker will be given an opportunity to play this year. That decision won't be made until late in the August practice. From what I understand, the coaches won't be surprised if he shows enough to play this year. In the spring the concern with Yobes Walker was still the ability to pass block.

Noting that he hasn't stepped on the field yet, I'm expecting him to have an impact. I believe he will have a similar impact that Chery has had hoping to provide us with the big play that we will sorely miss from our other skill players. I think that the coaches would love to redshirt him but he may be too valuable and needed not to.

I'm a bit concerned with Yobes. He's had over a year in this system and he still seems to not get pass blocking schemes and doesn't run with any confidence. I hope he sees the light because he is the most talented back we have I believe but he can't separate himself.

The only back we have that played with any type of impact last year IMO is Shankle and he's an injury risk every time on the field.
