Despite that, we have the best atmosphere in the country (IMO) and are in the top 25 yearly in attendance. I attribute the majority of that situation to the coach. _

Bad facilities, good atmosphere, bad play= Good Coach? Again, I'm not saying he should be fired but the last couple of years should bring questions to the table. MANY other baseball programs in the country are in the same position as ours as the athletic budget usually benefits the major sports like basketball and football. Very few baseball players are on scholarship and many small schools are very successful in baseball so I don't necesarily buy the argument.

I think that it does Our facilities, as much as I love the game day atmosphere, are indeed woeful. I met a So Miss parent two year ago when they were here From Carencro I think. Said that So Miss offered so much more so they decided to take that offer instead. Dougas from Teurlings now at Bama. Parents were very interested in him playing at UL. easier to see him play. a quality program. but when Bama showed up the differences were too stark to pass up. they were not looking for us to match just get comparable. you know what they told me was the deciding point? A $500 lap top The Bama players get one and travel with it. Assignments are emailed and they are required to study on the road.Robe could only offer the 1980's solution. our players team up with another non-athlete student and get their notes and the assignments

So yes Robe is playing with a deck stacked against him. His quote in today's Daily Aggrevation said it all. He will coach his son somewhere in 2011. but not necessarily here yu may get your wish.

man a 500 buck laptop being the desciding factor? wow You know I think that coach robe has taken a VERY proactive role in ensuring incomming recruits and players that he is serious about academics and graduating his student athletes. He is committed to academics and does a very very good job at it. Coach Doe is a volunteer that does a fabulous job at staying on top of grades, study hall etc etc. Dont remember the last time that baseball had a student athlete no eligable to play. I think that it was Beck, but that was a different situationhe wanted to play pro ball

Robe has hardly worn out his welcome. No doubt there are many reasons why we are struggling. More competition from more programs with more money. Missed calls on players, missed calls on coaches maybe, but all are within the ability of this coach to get our program back to a very high level.

If you want to get back to the CWS we need to improve the entire athletic department. RCAF is started lets back them, and individual programs.

Baseball cant be evaluated like the rest of the sports for many reasons, one being those hefty 11.7 scholarships for a 35 man roster. Look at the records of teams in college baseball. You have the top notch who win 40+, then you have the next level who win 30+, then you have the others who win less then 30. Robe has consistently been in that second level and had a couple teams in the top notch during his career. Were these last 2 years a dissapointment? Yes. But also remember that they are teaching a new hitting philosophy with the addition of Trahan, which came around in spurts this year. The guys werent trying to hit the sign in left anymore, they were trying to drive the ball from center to the opposite gap. Everything will be fine, plenty of returning talent and a wealth of experience gained this year by the freshmen.

Rant complete! Have a nice day. I need a drink lol

Sorry but that was once the case but is no longer true. Florida, Georgia, California, Kentucky, New Mexico, Michigan, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and others now have programs that are at least comparable to TOPS. At least a few of these states have SBC teams.

Also not the case any more with the new scholarship rules that are going to be enforced on baseball, which are awful to say the least.

My wish?.Keep reading ALL of my past posts. Geez. I've heard many here state that wins and losses are eventually how you are judged. He hasn't been doing so well in that category has he? Robe is in no worse of a position that that of coach Bustle. These are some of the reasons why I don't feel the coaches are judged the same. Again, I'm not saying I want him gone because I agree that he is the best fit for us, for now but I am saying that all of this criticism that flies around here needs to have its fair share thrown Robe's way.

I believe Robe and the baseball program have been criticized quite a bit on here over the past 2 years especially. I was unaware there was a quota system in place for coach criticism, but I think I can account for some of the differences. First of all, there are many more passionate football fans than there are baseball fans and that is true of RC participants as well. That accounts for more people chiming in on our football wins/losses and coaching than on our baseball coach. Baseball fans are usually a more cerebral group. Usually. You don't have nearly as many of the illustrious "bandwagon - give me something to make my life less miserable" fan associated with baseball. If you ever want to improve your street vernacular or debate a fence post. go to a football forum. on any fan site in America. Not so true with baseball.

Anyhow. I'm not as jacked up about our coaches as some. I think we have systemic issues that have to be resolved first. When you do not have a huge amount of money to throw around, the head coach firing formula is tricky. I still get a belly laugh out of "we need to make our coaches more accountable". That is pretty funny. Coaches just get fired or they do not get fired. and fans either help a program or they do not help a program.

Sorry your comparison of Bustle to Robe does not hold up. I am absolutely a proponent of Bustle being gone. and an absolute proponent of Robe being given an extension. Why? Robe has EARNED the patience. His record speaks for itself. Bustle has done nothing but produce a mediocre team in the worst Football conference in America and has had 7 years to change things. My patience with Robe is not forever. but 2 bad seasons in a row after all that he has produced gives him more than a single "bogey" in my book

I can't agree with you more. I know Taylor and his parents and family. I hate to say it, but i don't believe it came down to a $500 computer. The implication was that he wanted to play here, but the free computer from Bama did the trick. I gathered during the recruiting process that he wanted to play for a "bigger school" and bigger conference, so that is why we didn't sign him.

I am about sick of seeing this dang thread. I may not post a whole lot, but I read them all, and have for a long time. I keep seeing numerous people refer to '2 bad seasons'. Just above .500 in 08 and just below .500 in 09. I would like to point out that .500 baseball is not BAD, that is mediocre/average. However, at UL, yes it's below par. The reason it is below par because of the bar that Robe has helped establish here. Yes, I would LOVE to be in a regional every geedee year, but it's just not possible with the contstraints on this program. Parity in college baseball is greater than ever, and the sun-belt is more competitve (across the board) than ever. IMO, we will be LUCKY to keep Robe after his contract is up in 2011. That's my 2 cents.

Also, I'd like to point out a couple of other things. At the Tigue, the audio in section A has been schitty for years. I have complained to Coach Do (director of baseball operations) and I have complained to John Dugas (game management) for several seasons. Nothing was ever done.at some point this season, I was sick of it and emailed Coach Robe. Before the next home game, he had a speaker put up out there and was apolegetic that is was not done sooner. Also, one Saturday game a group rented one of the Lourde's Pavillions for Tailgating. When we showed up at 9:00 on gameday TONY ROBICHEAUX himself was out there setting the dang tables up for us. This is the kind of stuff Robe has to do to keep the program at the level it is. He has to micromanage every aspect of the baseball world at UL. For all of those on the board that like to criticize but never attend one stinking game, the gameday atmosphere at the Tigue is one of the best in the country. The visiting parents/fans sit near me at almost every game. Seems that every team has people comment on how fun the atmosphere is, and they wish their place was more like the Tigue. This even includes larger schools like Nebraska who average a great deal more fans than we do. I attribute A LOT of this to the 'attention' to detail' Robe provides to all areas of his domain. With his resumé, he will generate interest from larger schools, possibly SEC/Big 12and we will be LUCKY to keep him. I absolutely HATE that some feel differently, but that's your perrogative. Bottom line is, he is here till after the 2011 season, and I think 2 losing seasons in 15 years, gives him the right to be here until his contract is up. So.I'd like to give it a rest for about 2 years.
