You all need to leave the LU thing alone. It is the worst thing that could happen (has anyone heard of Louisiana College?). If we want to have a unique identity, the LU is NOT THE WAY TO GO. You think we have identy problems now? Do you want us to be confused with LC? Do you think LSU would allow a name so similar to theirs? You are delusional if you want that name.

Please no. We would be opening another very bad can of worms. We cannot change our name again. LU completely pulls a vacuum... I mean completely. There may be too many current renditions of our name, but we have to try to stick with UL and let the occasional long versions happen. The name issue is nothing... absolutely nothing... compared to upgrading our program from within our ranks. From within our ranks... where the money and support will come... there is not a single legitimate person squabbling about the name. The mission is to compete on the athletic field of battle in the major sports. We have had enough name distractions. It is simply time to muster up those who are willing to join the funding system and begin building the empire. If one day... the Baton Rouge legislature all have a frontal lobotomy and we are allowed to legally remove the second L... then we will initiate that final move for name changing. Until then... let's please try to understand how ugly any more name attempts will be... and just leave it alone. Thanks in advance!

I can understand not wanting LU, but what does it have to do with Louisiana College? Since when is LC anywhere near LU? Becuase they start with the same letter? I don't get this one. Outside of LA, I bet not one soul knows that Louisiana College even exists.

For the guy who says we should just go with UL and Louisiana.....how are we going to do that? We are unable to print merchandise w/ UL on it w/o using "Lafayette."

I honestly believe our best option is to either drop the "U" and just use the initial "L" much like Tennessee and Memphis do or switch the initials. But to me LU would be too much of a hassle.

personally i like UL...i think it is catching on and you are starting to see our unis use it without the lafayette....if you notice the banner around cajun field's wall underneath the UL is Ragin Cajuns, and not lafayette, i think it looks great. i like the way our UL looks with the shadow and all, and no offense CajunCan, but that L you use is not attractive. i dont mind seeing lafayette on official university seals and so on. i think we are closer than some people think.

Since that is a pipe dream, then we need to just use LOUISIANA and drop the U altogether on everything. It seems to work for Tenn., Michigan, etc. The whole LU thing would draw even more attention from LSU because it is so close to what they use, not to mention it is looks ridiculous. _
Sorry, but Acadiana University sounds like a high school. I guess I would agree that all we can do is embrace UL and louisiana and just keep cramming louisiana down their throats until they gag. Until we can drop the lafayette we have no choice but to push on. The only reason we are not recognized nationally as Louisiana is because we are rarely in the limelight.. when that starts to happen maybe things will change.. time will tell.. Go Louisiana!

If you look more closely at the banner around the field, it has UL Ragin Cajuns, Louisiana and Lafayette along with sponsors. The "Lafayette" is still alive and well.

My request to Josh was not to promote the LU name, but rather to address the identity issue we have in total. Address the inconsistent use of UL, Louisiana, Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns, UL Lafayette, and Louisiana-Lafayette by our own athletic department, with all these references often in a single publication. How do we establish a clear identity if we don't have one ourselves? As I said before, I much prefer the UL to LU. I am, however, tired of all the different references to our university. Outside of Lafayette, we are UL LOUISIANA -Lafayette, Louisiana Lft., LA-Lft., UL L, U La La, etc., etc. It is a joke. What was the intent of the name change? Was it purely academic, because there appears to have been very little thought as to athletics? Is there a short term or long term solution to this? Does the university even want to address it? Does this simply open a can of worms that we don't want to get into? I don't know. Perhaps an article in the newspaper would have a more galvanizing effect that unites our alumni as opposed to just opening a can of worms.

This is a discussion board and I thought this was worthy of discussion. I know this seems to be a never ending topic, but that is just the point. If a clear identity was not all that important, there would be no need for marketing, advertising and branding. We all have opinions on this matter, so this is the perfect forum for those opinions. It's been 9 years since our name change and we still have no clear identity. But we do finally have a new President of the University, so maybe it is time to address this issue publicly that might result in bringing a resolution to this matter.

Well, it would not distinguish us because it would be similar to names that already exist. There is already a school that is called Louisiana College (even if not well known, too similar) and Louisiana STATE University (Omit the State and more confusion). Tell me how that would distinguish us again? We all agree that we need a name that is unique to us and only us, but LU is the most ridiculous of the ideas that has been mentioned.
I am not saying that LC is anywhere near where we are, but is Lafayette College either? Some have certainly used that one as a reason to say we need to get away from the Lafayette being in our name. Do you want to go through all of the trouble just to have two IN-STATE schools with names that we are way too similar to? I think not.

How can we expect others to get our name right... when WE can't even agree on one ourselves. This is ridiculous!

    We ARE... "UL"!

If we are "UL" then someone needs to inform our administration b/c we are only debating something that they seem to be undecided on. Our own university does not even consistently use UL, UL-Lafayette, Louisiana, etc.
