A Lafayette man is dead after a two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle Tuesday on Interstate 49 near milepost 14.

Troopers say just after 2:00 p.m., 67-year old Donald Royer was riding a motorcycle, headed southbound on I-49, when a truck, driven by 62-year-old Willie Smith of Church Point, was attempting to merge onto the right lane from the shoulder. Investigators say while trying to avoid hitting the rear of Smith's truck, Royer lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown from the bike.
