Crowley Police Department is advising businesses to be on alert for telephone scammers fraudulently presenting themselves as detectives from the Crowley Police Department Fraud Unit.
CPD reports that several business have complained that the alleged scammer then advises the person representing the business that he needs to obtain information from credit cards. According to the complaints, the caller id is blocked by the subject.
Crowley Police advise that they are working to identify this suspect.
"If you or your business receives a call from someone claiming to be Crowley Police Department regarding the request for information and you have not filed a complaint for investigation, do not provide any information. Our investigators will come and meet with complainants.Detective will not call over the phone for sensitive information, especially credit card numbers. This is a scam and we are working to bring this suspect to justice" stated Chief K.P. Gibson.
Those with information about this scam are urged to call Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish. All callers will remain anonymous and can receive up to a $1,000 cash reward.
