Congrats to the ladies on a great season. I know it was disappointing compared to last year, but still very good nonetheless. They are the most consistent program we have.
I just can't wait until baseball is done so we can put this pathetic sports year behind us and get ready for next year.
Stevie P was way over the top with his gushing about next year, but I agree that it was a successful season. Extremely disappointing to be sure, considering the quality of pitching, however, the hitting this year has been inconsistent at best. The fact that they won 45 games is a testament to the talent in the circle. Coming into the season, I was sure they would be back in the WCWS but as the season progressed, my confidence waned considerably due to the lack of hitting, and inconsistent defense. jmo
Agreed. Losing Hubbard will be a blow, however they will be stronger without Runyan. Runyan though has so much heart to battle through her bad back and still play with everything she had. My hat goes off to her.
Next season we'll have a healthy Brignac as well as hopefully a better and more consistent offense.
The Cajuns had to overcome alot this season; they were in the trenches fighting for every pitch, every out, every inning. They will only get better.
A big thanks to all of them for playing a great season!
I know, and I'm never a negative guy or second guesser. But at the time, it definitely seemed like the right move to pull Brignac. I thought she could get us through the lineup once and she did and figured that Donna could carry us the rest of the way. Donna gets to rest for a half a year now. I have faith that the core group and the pitchers along with this coaching staff will have us in great shape for the next 2 years minimum.
Like you said, a few more bats and slightly better defense and we are as good as last year or better. This team was still a top 25 team this year and will only rise next year
If anyone thought that after losing Soto and Tankersley, the Cajuns were headed back to the WCWS they were not being realistic. You don't just replace an all-american and a all regional player in your lineup. Once Brignac went down, I thought the Cajuns were a regional team at best. The Cajuns got hot down the stretch, winning 19/20 games and Donna had an outstanding year. But even during that stretch, this team played poor defense at times and they were inconsistant at the plate.
We have the pitching for the next few years to make another run at the WCWS, but there is work to be done with the lineup. Improved defense and a couple of more bats developing like Orgeron will be important for next season.
I think that in football we will have a better overall team, but it will not show up in the win column due to the money games on the schedule and the 1 or 2 losses we will have due to coaching errors. In other words, I see us going anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5.
Basketball, I see us finishing no better than .500. I really thing Coach Lee is a nice guy, but a horrible coach.
Hope I am wrong on both counts, but that's how I see it. In baseball, I see us making a run at the regionals and in softball, maybe the WCWS again.
