A Lafayette mother is praising the efforts of one of her son's classmates during the tough times she's been facing.
A truck hit Tamara Boudreaux's son, Dayon, a week ago today as he walked down the street. The driver took off, and Dayon remains in intensive care. When Dayon's classmate found out about it, she pledged to fundraise for him. Danni Trahan said she didn't hesitate when thinking about donating all of her tips to her Acadiana High classmate.
"I wanted to do this because I felt it deep down inside my heart that I should help somebody, and it shouldn't always have to be about me," said Trahan.
Boudreaux's mother Tamara said she was floored when she found out someone the same age as 17-year-old Dayon would be willing to sacrifice something so important.
"I was really shocked for the most part that someone her age wanted to do something for someone else," said Boudreaux's mother.
During her Friday night shift at Richard's Seafood Patio, Trahan waited tables for as long as she could, as fast as she could. Boudreaux's mother says she is overwhelmed at the lengths Trahan was willing to go to for her son.
"When I actually spoke to her I just started crying. With everything else that I have going on, you know, it's good to know that they really have some people who are genuine and have good hearts," said Boudreaux's mother.
After all of her hard work and fundraising, Trahan delivered two thousand dollars to the Boudreauxs this evening at the hospital.
"Words can't begin to explain or express; it seems like thank you isn't enough," said Boudreaux's mother.
Richard's Seafood Patio in Abbeville, where Trahan is a waitress, will continue to take donations as long as Boudreaux's family needs help covering costs. Other local Acadiana businesses are also making donations to help out the family.
