The scheme appears to be the same one as Alabama's and a few others...Is our personnel capable of running this scheme? I do not attend the practices and I do not have access to team game video where you see the whole picture at once, so I cannot answer that question. Television does not allow for a complete picture of a play. We have to trust our Coaches to get things right.

When you have overwhelming talent on defense, you can drop back and react. Your speed and size advantage can overcome the opposing team's offensive intent. Essentially, you can do just about any scheme you want. I can't blame the premier program in the SEC for this scheme implementation. But when Alabama runs a particular scheme, and the vast majority of other team's DCs don't copy it... where did UL decide that "we and Alabama" are birds of a similar hue... and we should play a "Allow their QB to think they he throw to this or that guy... but our closing speed will either pick it, deflect it, or hit the guy so hard he'll throw his groceries from last year?". We are not Alabama.

I've watched our defense make every QB, including the SBC, look like NFL prospects. We allow and react. It doesn't work. No player we recruit, and they all see the spread in HS now, is going to feel comfortable not being a "I'm going to clean your clock football player.". How can this "Only molest me a little bit... and then I'll try to stop you" defense be good for the psyche of a southern defensive football athlete?

After watching the game last night, I have come to the conclusion that Coach Hud is unwilling to show any variations of our offense or defense before the start of conference play. Cajuns have played pretty much vanilla all four games thus far. At the end of the game, a few adjustments in scheme were implemented on both sides of the ball and it appeared to work. We looked like a different team. Aside from our players tackling and blocking woes, I hope this is the reason for our subpar performance.

I assume we have little choice. But, someone, somewhere was saying this when Jerry Baldwin was running the show. I do "hope" things improve. I just wish I saw our coaching staff getting as tired of this porous defense as we fans have been for some time.

I do agree that teams can get exposed from game to game and season to season ...

However, the value of hiding your variations or scheme is gone after one conference game.

So to me hiding only stifles your teams experience level.

Oh, I'm ready to hear the "hold the rope" rah-rah. That's fine, but I feel we're holding onto the Titanic at this moment. As a fan base all we honestly can hang our hat on this season is a punter as our best player, and a red ___ broken down field goal attempt as our best offensive play.

I don't know what to think about this, if true. I would be pretty ____ed if we were willing to just take our lumps and paychecks through these first four games not to show our "true" hand for conference. You don't progress as a program if you do this.

Mentioning the UL defense trying to play like it's Alabama ... remember Willis was the LB coach and (amazingly) associate head coach behind Saban for a year. So maybe the problem is this guy thinks he's still at Alabama ... he's not. When you have the talent to put in any scheme you want and have your defense dominate ... it doesn't make you a good coach. He could just tell his LBs at Alabama to "run around and look busy" and they'd make him look like a A+ LB coach.

All in all there is a reason when UL came calling for Willis he wasn't an assistant on an Alabama anymore ... but instead an assistant in the "United Football League".
